The WEM/JWP Grizzlies participated in a 20-team youth kindergarten thru 3rd grade team tournament in Waseca on Sunday, February 18. The team went 3-3 on the day with a 1st place finish in Pool D. The team was composed of weights from 40 pounds thru heavyweight (130 pound maximum). On the team was Mateo Masso, Sutton Wenker, Maddox Knish, Derek Budahn, Rhett Melchert, Ryatt Melchert, Mariella Masso, Reed Blasing, Gabriel Skidmore, Crue Knish, Chance Luiken, Weston James, Jacee Knish, Cadence Potter, Charlie Bauer, Hudson Splett, and Kason Flohaug.
As another trip around the calendar ended this week, it is time to once again recollect about times gone by.
Bingo has become a pretty big thing these days, especially the prize bingos which are held in our communities monthly.

For the first time, the Camp Omega Plunge will be moving its location from the Morristown Fire Department to the Camp Omega campus. This will be the sixth plunge.
The plunge will be held Sunday, Feb. 25 with 1-2 p.m. registration, 2-2:30 p.m. introduction of teams/jumper parade, and the first plungers will head into the water starting at 2:30 p.m.
The WEM girls basketball team played two of the top teams in Section 2AA last week and finished with a split.
The Bucs defeated Lake Crystal-Wellcome Memorial (LCWM), a 16-win team, 62-44 Tuesday, Feb. 13. Three days later a 20-win JWP team came to Waterville and edged WEM, 54- 48, avenging and earlier season loss to the Bucs.
WEM is now 10-6 in the Gopher Conference and 14- 11 overall heading into the post-season playoffs, which will begin next week. Seeding will take place Friday, Feb. 23.
Nora Ell, daughter of Steven and Laura Ell was crowned Snow Queen and Kymin Morsching, son of Rhonda Morsching and Russell Morsching, was crowned Snow King during the Snow/FFA Week Coronation held Tuesday morning in Waterville.
Snow Princes and Snow Princesses were also crowned from the freshman, sophomore and junior classes.
Alix Velzke, daughter of Bruce and Kristin Velzke, and Kavan Sheehy, son of Tiffany Lange, were the freshmen honorees.
The Gopher Conference West Division Champion JWP boys basketball team handed the Buccaneers an 84-52 loss Friday, Feb. 16 during Parent’s Night in Janesville.
The Bulldogs are currently 19-5 overall and 12-1 in the conference. WEM is 10-11 overall and 8-5 in the conference. Tuesday they played Maple River, the team they are tied for second place in the conference with. WEM will host Cleveland Thursday, Feb. 22.
The Bucs also played a nonconference game Tuesday, Feb. 13 and were defeated by Norwood-Young America (NYA), 62-56.
Lucille Gregor, age 94, of Waseca, passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 8, 2024, in Waseca with her family by her side.
Born on September 8, 1929, in rural Waterville, Minnesota, Lucille was the daughter of Alfred and Esther (Stoering) Haase. She was baptized, confirmed, and attended school at St. Peter’s “Bell” Lutheran Church in rural Waterville. She graduated from Waterville High School in 1947. Lucille married Bernard Gregor on September 20, 1950. He preceded her in death on November 18, 1972. Together they had two children, Bonnie and Leon.
Helen C. Boese, age 92, of Morristown, died on Tuesday, February 6, 2024, at Benedictine Living Community, Owatonna.
Funeral services will be held at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Waseca, on Saturday, February 17, 2024, at 11 a.m. with the Reverend Michael Grannis officiating. Visitation will be at church for two hours prior to the service on February 17th. Interment will be at Riverside Cemetery, Morristown.

Lorraine Ann (Wandersee) Harty, age 88, of Cannon Falls, died peacefully at home surrounded by family on Thursday evening, February 1, 2024 after a long battle with cancer.
The Le Sueur County Historical Society will suffer two big body blows in 2024 when two long-time officers step down from their positions. Dr. Ruth Collins is ending a fouryear run as LCHS secretary, and Bonnie Reak is wrapping up a similar four-year stint as the organization's treasurer.
LCHS bylaws dictate no one can serve more than four consecutive years in the same office. Both Collins and Reak have reached that plateau.
It is kind of ironic that a benefit about the winter weather will be returning during the nicest winter weather in the past number of decades.
After four years without, the Waterville Chamber of Commerce Whine About Winter event will be held Saturday, Feb. 3 from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Waterville Event Center.
The event will feature a Craft Beer and Wine Tasting, 50/50 Raffle and Meat Raffle.
There will be a short presentation by J & L Bottles, local restaurant owners, and food vendors at 5:30 p.m. Wine and Beer Tasting begins at 6 p.m.
