New Prague’s indoor softball team enjoyed a solid week, winning two of three games.

The loss to Shakopee-Prior Lake-Chaska-Chanhassen sets up the Trojans for a playoff game as the No. 2 seed in the southwest division. A win qualifies the team for a return to state and a loss ends the Trojans’ season.

Monday, April 27, New Prague suffered a tough 7-6 loss to Shakopee-Prior Lake-Chaska-Chanhassen. New Prague’s come-back rally against the Undefeated Southern Stars came up just short in the seventh inning. Two defensive miscues led to four unearned runs for the Stars.

New Prague won three in a row in baseball as the Trojans defeated St. Louis Park, 6-5, Chanhassen, 5-4, and Owatonna, 18-8, last week.

New Prague had a home game Tuesday, April 28, against Benilde-St. Margaret’s with results not available as of press time. The Trojans are on the road for their next three games, first at Bloomington Jefferson today (Thursday) at 4:30 p.m., then at Waconia tomorrow (Friday) at 7 p.m. and at Shakopee, Saturday, May 2, for a 7 p.m. game. On Tuesday, May 5, New Prague is back home for a 4:30 p.m. game.

 New Prague High School’s girls’ and boys’ golf teams have enjoyed the benefits of practice and patience during the past week. The teams have earned solid showings at area courses and on the road.

New Prague’s indoor softball team is off to a fast start with a pair of important wins and two big games this week.

The New Prague High School boys’ volleyball team saw a lot of action with two matches and then its first tournament.

“The first week of competition for the boys’ volleyball program was one that kept everyone's heart rate up,” said head coach Greg Sayuk.

The Trojans were on the road for two matches this week. The first was at Richfield Tuesday, April 14, and New Prague faces Eagan tonight (Thursday, April 16).

If the early results are a reliable sign, New Prague High School’s track teams are looking at a strong showing this spring.

Thursday, the Trojans competed at a non-conference indoor meet at Minnesota State University, Mankato. The NP boys finished ahead of Mankato East and Blue Earth Area. The New Prague girls finished second to Mankato East and ahead of BEA.

New Prague High School’s boys’ tennis team wants to win more matches this spring. The team has been working hard this spring to make that goal a reality in a strong Metro West Conference.

The Trojans open the conference season against BenildeSt. Margaret’s Thursday, April 9, 4:15 p.m. They’ll host Farmington and New Ulm Monday, April 13, 2:30 p.m.

“We want to be stronger in the Metro West Conference,” NP coach Jill Bailey said.

The New Prague Area Figure Skating Club held its 27th annual spring show, Sunshine, Summer, Spirals & Spins, Saturday, March 14, at the New Prague Community Center. The show featured music from spring, summer and warm places such as Hawaii. There were classic songs such as “Surfin’ USA” to Disney songs like “You’re Welcome” from “Moana.” The performances featured solos, duets, trios and large groups. There were...

New Prague High School’s boys’ basketball run in the Section 1AAAA tournament began Wednesday evening, March 4, at Farmington. The Trojans, seeded seventh in the tournament, battled the Tigers, seeded second, but Farmington ended the game with a score of 82-47.

“We got off to a good start, and stuck with them until midway through the first half,” said New Prague head coach Dan Peterka. “They went on a run, but we continued to battle and were down 11 at the half.”

In the last minute of the first half, the Trojans went on a scoring run to bring the score within reach.

When the final pins fell, the members of the Southwest Metro Bowling team didn’t immediately react as if they had just won a state championship. It wasn’t until the team was announced as the winner the five girls displayed the joy of a championship.

The five-member co-op Southwest Metro team defeated Rochester-Pine Island in the Bowling Proprietors’ Association of America Inc.’s four-game championship match, 772-688, Saturday, March 7, at Mermaid Entertainment Center’s bowling complex in Mounds View.

While New Prague High School’s boys’ basketball’s season came to an end Wednesday, March 4, its final two games of the regular season were against Waconia and Chanhassen. NPHS faced Waconia Friday, Feb. 27, with an 83-73 loss. On Tuesday, Feb. 24, the Trojans had a difficult game against Chanhassen ending with a 73-63 loss.

Wednesday, March 4, the Trojans had their first and only game of the Section 1 Class AAAA tournament.

New Prague High School’s had a strong showing at the 2026 MSHSL (Minnesota State High School League) State Wrestling Tournament last weekend as Azalea “Z” Kallal (girls, 106 pounds) repeated winning the state title. Joining her in first place was Rhilynn Tolzman (girls, 100 pounds) in her first state appearance. Charlie Wagner (boys, Class AA, 107 pounds) also made his first state appearance at the Grand Casino Arena in St. Paul, taking fourth. Aeralyn Palmer (girls 118 pounds) fought hard and went 1-2 for her first state appearance.

NP falls to champs in Saturday semifinal round

Rebounding from a tough loss in the semifinal round to the tournament’s eventual champion, the New Prague Trojans’ floor hockey team took third-place honors at the Minnesota State High School League’s floor hockey tournament at Bloomington Jefferson High School.

Any momentum the New Prague girls’ basketball team may have gained from winning their final regular season game of the season didn’t hold up well as the Trojans fell in the opening round of the Section 1AAAA playoffs Wednesday night, Feb. 25, at Lakeville North.

Heading into the state tournament, New Prague High School’s cooperative floor hockey team seems ready to begin a strong defense of its state championship from a year ago.

The opening round is the big question mark. New Prague will face Shakopee-Prior Lake-Chaska-Chanhassen tomorrow evening, Friday, Feb. 27, 8 p.m., at Bloomington Jefferson High School’s activities center. See the team congratulations page in the print edition for the bracket information.

Heading into the final week of the regular season, New Prague’s girls’ basketball team is looking to build momentum as it prepares for a probable section game on the road.

Coach Eric Specht sees New Prague is a likely No. 6 seed in the section playoffs. NP defeated Rochester Century and has a better record than Rochester John Marshall (6-18 overall, 0-7 against section teams), he said. Rochester Mayo and Lakeville South are expected to be the top two teams in the section, followed in some fashion by Lakeville North, Owatonna and Farmington.
