Robert John Peach, age 77, of Waterville died on Sunday, April 14, 2024, at Abbott Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis surrounded by his family.
Darrell Jeffrey Haslip, age 51, of San Francisco, CA, passed away unexpectedly in his home on Wednesday, April 10, 2024.
WEM junior Gavin Brown and sophomore Talen Taylor have been honored by Gopher Conference Boys Basketball Coaches for the second consecutive year. Seniors Luke Michael and Redzel Priebe were honored for the first time.
After being named to the Honorable Mention All-Gopher Conference Team last year, Brown and Taylor were both named to the 3rd Team All-Conference squad.
Priebe was named to the Honorable Mention Team.
Michael received the Gopher Conference Sportsmanship Award.
They are among 15 senior and 12 underclassmen named to the All-Conference Teams.
It was an incredible weekend for three WEM youth wrestlers at the NYWA Girls State Championships.
Mariella Masso, Jacee Knish, and Anaelyse Skidmore combined to win nine straight matches and win three State Championships.
Masso, age 6, won the Pre-K & K 55-pound title. She wrestled only 48 seconds in three matches. She pinned Elise Jaeger of Albert Lea in 20 seconds, pinned Lilyanna Bugbee of Stewartville in 14 seconds, and in the championship she pinned Adrianna Jordan of Shakopee in 14 seconds.
Elysian native Rose Hollermann has been selected to her fourth straight United States Women’s Wheelchair Basketball National Team.
Her selection was made following the National Wheelchair Basketball Association (NWBA) selection camp, held March 27-31 at the U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
While it won’t be open for public use, a new recycling facility will be bringing benefits to Montgomery starting next month.
Cosmic Recycling has plans to open a facility that focuses on recycling solar panels and electronic waste, dubbed e-waste. The waste items will be shipped in from outside sources rather than collected from the community.
The facility will be located at 513 1st St. South in Montgomery in a facility owned by Hruby Rentals.
Patricia Ellen (Nelson) Borst, age 85, of St. Peter, passed away on Saturday, March 23, 2024, at Ecumen Prairie Hill in St. Peter.
Dennis Daniel Delaske, Sr., age 78, of Waterville, died on Wednesday, March 20, 2024, at his home surrounded by his loved ones.
A 22-year-old Gaylord man was arrested on March 20 for his role in supplying fentanyl pills to a Montgomery 18-year-old girl who died as a result of a suspected overdose on Jan. 8, according to a press release by the Cannon River Drug Violent Offender Task Force (CRDVOTF).
Irene Mae (Mlenek) Sutter, age 80, of Morristown, passed away on Saturday, March 16, 2024, at Colony Court Assisted Living in Waseca.
Irene was born on June 26, 1943, at Meehl’s Maternity Home in Morristown to Frank & Opal (Schwanke) Mlenek. She graduated from Morristown High School in 1961. She married Richard Elmer Sutter on April 2, 1965, in Waterville.
After her graduation, Irene was employed by Herter’s, E.F. Johnson, Truth and Itron.
Connie (Wesley) Havrilla, age 75, of Rosemount, passed away on March 12, 2024, with family by her side.
A Waterville woman was arrested Saturday, March 16, after holding sheriff’s deputies and police at bay in a several-hour standoff on the 100 block of Sakatah Boulevard.
Saturday morning at 12:04 a.m., Ande Bremmer, 30, advised police in several phone calls she was upset how officers handled a domestic disturbance at the residence earlier in the night and she began making comments about shooting law enforcement and advised she had firearms and ammunition, according to a press release from the Le Sueur County Sheriff's Office.
In an eerie foreshadowing statement, the Montgomery Fire Department put out the message Sunday on Facebook saying, “Despite the super nice weather this weekend, please consider NOT burning anything this afternoon. With the elevated fire conditions this afternoon, it would be highly unsafe to burn anything.”

Raymond "Bud" Miller, age 96 of Kilkenny passed into the hands of God on Saturday, March 2, 2024, in Faribault, Minnesota.
Elaine Kathleen Scholer, age 80, of Waterville, passed away on Tuesday, February 20, 2024, at Benedictine Health Care Center in Minneapolis.
Born on August 17, 1943, in New Ulm, Elaine was the daughter of Elwyn and Borghild (Aukrust) Sperl. She graduated from Waterville-Elysian High School with the class of 1961. She worked various jobs throughout her career. Elaine worked for Carlson Craft as an operator on the paste machine for over fifteen years until her retirement. On April 1, 1962, she was united in marriage to Robert Scholer at Waterville Methodist Church.
