Who can talk to whom, limiting free speech and protecting information are just a few of the recent events in the court case against the Le Sueur County Historical Society (LCHS).
 
According to an order filed in Le Sueur County Court on July 17, attorneys for LCHS have sought to restrict first amendment rights of those involved in the case. The proposed order filed by Attorney Raymond Konz, seeks to preclude the 16 plaintiffs in the case from disclosing “confidential” information between each other, puts limits on the media, and potentially other people in the public.

It was a few days later and as Dale dropped off his “Windows for Veterans” ballot at LaNette’s, he ran into the 2018 Kolacky Days Grand Marshals Jake and Kay Keohen who both were having a Strawberry Rhubarb Cobbler cone. 
 
Dale congratulated them both and bet as the former editor and publisher of the Montgomery Messenger, Jake would have some ideas on where the medallion might be hiding in town. 
 

It was after History Night at the Arts & Heritage Center where the Kolacky Queen candidates learned about the place they call home and how this year’s Grand Marshals Jake Koehen’s great uncle Peter Keohen coined the celebration’s name “Kolacky Day” back in 1929 that a few of the historical society members stopped by the Montgomery Brewing Company for a pivo or maybe even a soda. 
 

The Dakota-Rice-Scott Baseball League concluded its 2018 regular season Sunday, July 22, and teams are now preparing for the league and Region 3C playoffs. 
New Market, St. Patrick, Union Hill and New Prague were the top four teams, in order, in the leagues standings. Those four teams earn a bye into the regional playoffs. 

Happy Kolacky!! It’s the greatest days of summer in Minnesota Czech Country! As we begin celebrating our 84th year, the Montgomery Area Community Club once again decided to hold the “The Great Kolacky Pursuit – A Medallion Hunt” as one of its activities planned this week in Montgomery! 
 

James Edward Jabas, age 72, of Montgomery, died on Friday, July 20, 2018 at his home in Montgomery. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 25, 2018 from 4pm-8pm at Schoenbauer Funeral Home in Montgomery. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, July 26, 2018 at 10:30am at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church with visitation 1 hour prior at church. Father George Grafsky and Father Victor Valencia will be officiating. Burial will be held in St. Catherine’s of Spring Lake 4500 220th St. E. Prior Lake. Military honors will be provided by the Montgomery area Veterans Honor Guard.

With less than a week remaining in the regular season, New Market and St. Patrick have clinched berths in the Region 3C playoffs and New Prague and Union Hill are in the driver’s seat for the remaining two automatic berths. Montgomery, St. Benedict and Faribault are still in the hunt, but need to win multiple games over the season’s final days to claim a bye into the playoffs.

An explosion and fire destroyed a vacant home in Montgomery early Tuesday morning.
 
The explosion occurred in the residence located at 104 3rd St. SW, across the street from Most Holy Redeemer Church. According to Police Chief Lou Sager and Fire Chief Ken Pavek, no one was injured.
 
Pavek said his crew was called to the scene around 2:15 a.m. He also called New Prague and Le Center for mutual aid.
 

Albert F. Malecha, age 96, of Montgomery, died on Saturday, July 14, 2018 at Traditions of Montgomery. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 17, 2018 from 9:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Montgomery. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, July 17, 2018 at 11:30 a.m. at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church with KC Rosary fifteen minutes prior to visitation at the Church. Father George Grafsky will be officiating. Burial will be held at St. Wenceslaus Cemetery in New Prague following mass.

Le Sueur County’s 25th Relay for Life will be held this Friday, July 13 into the early hours of Saturday morning at the fairgrounds in Le Center with a 2 a.m. closing ceremony.
“This is the first year we won’t be going all night,” explained event co-chair Sara Slavik. “We used to go for 12 hours, until 6 a.m., but there were requests to shorten it. I think the earlier closing ceremony will make it easier for people.”

In the fight against cancer, hundreds of Le Sueur County residents and their families and friends are raising awareness and funds for research, step by step. The Relay for Life of Le Sueur County is an active team fundraiser where people from all over the county, take turns walking around a track at the Le Sueur County Fairgrounds.
 

The past week saw some outstanding individual performances in the Dakota- Rice-Scott League. Veseli’s Mike Bartusek went 5-for-6 in a loss to Lonsdale, Mike Flicek and Eric Iverson both had four hits for Montgomery in a win over Shakopee, Derek Masberg threw a three-hit shutout as Union Hill defeated Prior Lake, while Prior Lake’s Cole Bjorge had four hits, including two doubles, and four RBIs in a win over Webster. Riley Ahern threw a one-hit shutout in New Market’s 3-0 win over New Prague, negating a three-hit, 12-strikeout performance by the Orioles’ Nathan Sprouls.

A growing number of Minnesota school districts are looking to the sun to stabilize their energy costs.
 
Tri-City United is the latest Minnesota school district to consider using solar power to save money. School board members are debating whether to join a nearby solar garden that could save the district $187,928 on electricity over the next 25 years.
 

Mary Bridget Krenik, 91, of Le Center, died Wednesday, July 4, 2018, at Central Health Care Center in Le Center.  Visitation was held at the Le Center Funeral Home on Friday, July 6 from 4 to 8 p.m. and one hour prior to the Mass at church on Saturday. Mass of Christian Burial was held at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Le Center on Saturday, July 7, 2018, at 10 a.m. with Fr. Chris Shofner presiding.  Burial was held at Calvary Cemetery in Le Center.

When is a child old enough to stay home alone?
It’s a question all parents eventually face.
Unfortunately, there’s no magical age for parents to use as to when it is safe—and legal—to leave children home alone because all children mature at different rates, but there are guidelines.
According to information provided by Le Sueur County’s Lead Child Protection Investigator Cari Krenik, children ages seven years and under should never be left alone for any period of time and children ages eight through 17 should only be left alone for certain periods of time.

It was a sweet tour down memory lane for the latest show and tell for the Montgomery Historical Society.
The journey started and ended at the famous Franke Bakery on Thursday, June 28 for the society’s bimonthly Show and Tell meeting. With more than 25 people along for the ride, Jean Franke, the granddaughter of bakery founder Emil Franke, narrated the story of the pastry shop’s humble beginnings.
