Montgomery Mallards 1, Elko Express 8
Perennial DRS powerhouse Elko traveled to Memorial Field last Wednesday, June 14 for a matchup with the local squad, coming out on top 8-1. Mallard’s starting pitcher Derek Christenson kept the dangerous Express bats relatively quiet for six innings, but Elko got to the Mallards bullpen late, breaking open a 2-1 game with six runs in the seventh inning, bolstered by a TJ Evanson grand slam, his second home run of the night. Alec Dohlman settled things down with three scoreless innings to finish, but the Mallard bats did not have enough juice to pull off a comeback. Max Krautkremer led the Mallard batters with two hits and scoring the lone run on a double steal in the fifth inning.
Montgomery Mallards 13, Shakopee Coyotes 2 The Mallards bats finally woke up on the evening of Friday, June 16 when the Shakopee Coyotes came to town, exploding for a 14 hit, 13 run night in a 10-run rule shortened game, winning 13-2. Leading the Mallards at the plate were Dawson Pint, Ryan Iverson, Max Krautkremer and Cole Pint, all with multiple hit games and Mike Flicek with a run scoring triple to right field. The Mallards broke the game open with six runs in the bottom of the fourth on five hits and forcing two Shakopee errors. Max Krautkremer got the win for the Mallards, pitching the first five innings and only allowing three hits and two runs while striking out 10 Coyotes.
Upcoming Mallard games The Mallards were scheduled to play at St. Benedict on Father’s Day, Sunday, June 18, but the game was postponed due to wet field conditions. At the time of press, a rescheduled date was not available. The Mallards will host Faribault on Friday, June 23 at 8 p.m. Come to Memorial Field for a chance to see former Major League Baseball pitcher and Faribault native Jake Petricka play for the Lakers against the Mallards. The Mallards also travel to Webster to take on the Sox on Sunday, June 25 at 2 p.m.
