507s 6, Orioles 1 The New Prague Orioles hosted the 34th New Prague Oriole Invitational this past weekend, June 10-11. The Lyon's Pub Warriors out of Minneapolis were the eventual champions. New Prague went 1-2 against a few tough Class B teams. In round one they lost to the 507 club out of Mahtomedi. Matt Zweber, Jake Deutsch and Gavin Bergman all pitched well, but some good timely hitting by the 507s led to a 6-1 victory for the visitors. Ben Schmitz, Eric Wagner and James Fuerniss all had good days at the plate with hits and reaching base multiple times.
Orioles 6, Highland Park 5 In game two, the Orioles would defeat Highland Park, 6-5. Eric Wagner had four hits, including two doubles and a couple of RBI's. James Fuerniss had two hits including an RBI double. Anthony Mader had two hits and a walk. Fuerniss was the winning pitcher. TJ Bergland got the save in relief.
Rochester 10, Orioles 0 In the third game, the Orioles battled last year’s defending Class B State champions, the Rochester Royals. Brody Isley started and kept the Orioles in the game, allowing only two runs through four innings of work. Beau Plaisance and Aiden Dorzinski entered in relief and pitched well but things slowly got away from them when the Rochester team’s bats got hot as the game ended 10-0 after six innings.
Faribault 5, St. Benedict 0 The Lakers topped the Saints on Sunday, June 11 at St. Benedict. Details of the game were not available when the paper went to press.
St. Patrick 16, Veseli 8 The Irish out-slugged the Warriors, 17-6, and held a 10-1 lead after three innings of the June 11 clash in Veseli. The Irish scored three times in the first inning, four times in the second and three times in the third frame. They added another two tallies the fourth frame. St. Patrick finished its scoring with three runs in the seventh and a lone run in the ninth. Veseli’s offense was limited to one in the third inning and another seven run in the fourth. Individual stats were not available at press time.
Union Hill 9, Veseli 3 The Bulldogs took advantage of a tough night defensively, scoring seven unearned runs against Veseli in the Thursday, June 8 game at Union Hill. Both teams made three errors in the game. The Bulldogs only allowed one unearned run. The Bulldogs scored three times in the first frame and then matched the Warriors, when both teams scored solo runs in the fourth and sixth innings. Leading 5-2, Union Hill blew the game open with four runs in the seventh inning. Jacob Becker scored twice without a hit. Nathan Berg scored twice with three hits for UH while teammate Will Busch scored twice and had two hits. Jack Kreutzian pinch-runner Peter Lim and Jack Giesen also scored for the Bulldogs. On the mound, Charlie Otteson packed the Bulldogs allowing five hits in seven innings. He struck out six, walked four and allowed two runs to cross the plate. One of the runs was unearned. Sam Novak and Derek Masberg both pitched an inning in the game. For Veseli, Bryce Simon, Andrew Picka, Nick Spitt, Nick Geis, Luke Shepard, Mason Mayer and Beau Brantner all had hits for the Warriors. Picka and Mayer were credited with RBIs in the game.
Webster 7, Lonsdale Aces 0 The Sox opened the June 8 game with four runs and held Lonsdale to only two hits on the way to a win Thursday in Lonsdale. The Sox jumped to a 4-0 lead in the first inning and tacked on two more runs in the fourth and one in the fifth. Six of the Aces’ runs were earned. Chad Vosejpka and pinch hitter Chad Love had the Aces’ two hits. Four Webster hitters had multiple hits, led by Peter Tveite with three. Peter Grassel, Jake Ekness, Brooks Prochaska and Austin Isaacson had two hits each. Grassel, Tveite and Prochaska all drove in two RBIs for the Sox. Tviete pitched eight innings of one-hit baseball. He stuck out 11 Aces. Austin Grexen pitched the ninth inning. He gave up a hit and recorded a strikeout. The Aces will travel to Cannon Falls to face the Bears Friday, June 16 at 8:15 p.m. They’ll face the Wanamingo Jacks Saturday, June 17 at 1:30 p.m. in Cannon Falls.
PL Mudcats 13, St. Benedict 1 The Mudcats pounded out seven runs in the first two innings on the way to a big win Thursday, June 8 at St. Benedict. Scoring four times in the first inning and three more times in the second, Prior Lake added six more runs in the fourth, ending the game after seven innings via the run rule. The Mudcats finished the game with a dozen hits. They were also the benefactors of seven walks. The Saints scored their run in the third. They had three hits for the game. Derek Albers, Jack Jones and Wade Olsen had hits for St. Benedict. Jones drove in Noah Miller with the Saints’ lone run.
Miesville 15, St. Patrick 5 The Mudhens topped the Irish Friday, June 9 in Miesville. Detailed stats on the game were not available when the paper went to press. The Irish will welcome Northfield to St. Patrick Friday, June 16 at 7:30 p.m., before playing two seven-inning games Saturday, June 17 in Green Isle. They’ll face Stockmen’s Irish at 4 p.m., and the Green Isle Irish at 6:30 p.m.
