Todd Lippert (DFL-Northfield) had a strong showing in his hometown as he won election to the Minnesota House of Representatives in District 20B Tuesday, Nov. 6.
Lippert received 10,932 votes, or 55.3 percent, to defeat Josh Gare (R-Montgomery). Gare had 8,832 votes, or 44.68 percent.
Incumbents Rachel M. Meger and Arthur Kasendorf were reelected to the Heidelberg City Council on Tuesday. Meger received 53 votes and Kasendorf 49. There were 10 write-in votes.

Voters in the Montgomery area, along with the rest of Minnesota and the United States, will head to the polls on Tuesday, Nov. 6 for the mid-term election. Voters will decide who will repent them at various levels of government ranging from local to national offices.
At stake is control of the US Senate and Congress, Minnesota Constitutional offices, including Governor and control of the Minnesota House of Representatives, along with many county, city, school district and township offices.
The Montgomery American Legion Auxiliary Unit 79 is sponsoring a lunch for all area veterans on Sunday, Nov. 11, 2018, at the American Legion Clubrooms. Lunch will be served at noon.
All area Veterans are asked to please sign up at the Legion Club or call 507-364-7779 to sign up no later than November 4.
They will deliver meals to homebound Veterans. Those veterans who need lunch delivered, should also please call the Legion. The meal is free for all veterans.

In a special meeting on November 1, the Tri-City United School Board hired a new Community Education Director.
Layne Wilbright will begin his position with TCU on Monday, Nov. 19. He comes from Le Sueur where he holds dual roles as the city’s Parks and Recreation Director, and the Community Education Director for Le Sueur-Henderson Schools. He has worked for the city overseeing the operations of the Le Sueur Community Center since 2006 and as the community education director, a joint powers agreement between the school and the city, since 2013.
From a broken sanitary sewer service line to brand new sidewalks that are cracked, the city councilors of Lonsdale are not pleased with work completed by contractors this year.
“It’s not acceptable,” Lonsdale Mayor Tim Rud said of the emergency repair work needed on the sewer line. “We should not let this slide.”
Rud is referencing the work completed by Quam Construction in July on a section of sewer line on Fourth Avenue Northeast that caused a home to be uninhabitable and required emergency repairs.

Some people in Montgomery want the city to change its residency rule for people serving on city boards and commissions.
City Administrator Brian Heck reminded the council on Monday, Oct. 15 that it unanimously approved the requirement on February 20, 2018, that stipulates residents who serve on city boards and commissions have to live within the corporate limits of the city or a two-mile radius of city limits. The exception is the Economic Development Authority that requires two non-resident members to be business owners.
To honor the creation of Czechoslovakia 100 years ago, the “Bohemian Triangle” of New Prague, Montgomery, Lonsdale and Veseli are putting together a celebration on Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 27 and 28.
Starting Saturday morning, Oct. 27, 12 area cemeteries will have Czech immigrant graves marked with Czech flags to honor Czech ancestors. Assistance will be available at the cemeteries in locating specific grave sites from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. In addition, general information on cemetery locations will be available at the Arts & Heritage Center (206 First Street N.) in Montgomery.
Le Sueur County and the State of Minnesota have entered into a Joint Powers Agreement (JPA) pertaining to Sanborn Lake.
This JPA was approved during the Tuesday. Oct. 23 Le Sueur County Board of Commissioners meeting in Le Center. Tim Koppelman, an assistant manager with the Minnesota DNR in Nicollet County, presented the agreement which makes the county the drainage authority for County Ditch 54 which is located near this lake which is 1.5 miles northeast of Montgomery.
A two-vehicle accident sent a New Prague man to a local hospital on Monday, Oct. 15.
Kyle Pecholt, 24, was taken by Montgomery Ambulance to Mayo Clinic Health System Hospital after his 2015 Ford Fusion collided with a 2000 Kenworth Tractor Semi around 11:18 a.m. The crash occurred at the intersection of Highway 13/21 and County Road 28, north of Montgomery.
The driver of the semi was Bruce Edward Lepage, 64, of Tomah, WI. He was listed as wearing his seatbelt and not injured. Pecholt was also wearing his seatbelt at the time of the crash.
Three men were arrested in Montgomery and charged with numerous felony charges after a yearlong investigation into drug use and sales.
Le Sueur County Sheriff Brett Mason reported that on Tuesday Oct. 9, 2018, shortly after 7 a.m., the Cannon River Drug and Violent Offender Task Force (CRDVOTF) executed two search warrants in the 700 block of Mill Avenue NE, Montgomery.
Due to the significant amount of property and agricultural damage after the Sept. 20 storm, the Le Sueur County Board has entered into a resolution which will help county residents.
The commissioners declared Le Sueur County in a State of Emergency Sept. 24 for the high wind storm event of Sept. 20.
During the Oct. 2 meeting, the county board signed a resolution which will waive zoning permit fees and grant administrative variances.
The resolution deals with affected properties as documented in the damage assessment from the storm damage.
