The WEM baseball team started their Section 2AA Quarterfinal game with Jordan Tuesday evening, but were unable to finish it because of inclement weather. The two teams were tied at 0-0 in the top half of the third when the game was suspended. The Bucs and Jaguars will resume action Wednesday, May 30 at 5 p.m. in Jordan. Win or lose the Bucs will play Thursday, May 31 either at Waterville against Blue Earth Area or at St. Peter at 5 p.m. WEM opened the playoffs with a 10-3 win over GFW Thursday, May 24.

The WEM baseball team opened Section 2AA Playoff action Thursday, May 24 with a 10-3 win over Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop. Bladyn Bartelt and Jayson Schneider each had three hits. Grant McBroom and Micheal Ungs had two hits. Bartelt pitched the first 5 1/2 innings and was awarded the win. Schneider pitched a scoreless 1 2/3 innings. The Bucs, the No. 5 seed, will play at 5 p.m., Tuesday, May 29 against Jordan, the No. 4 seed.  The game will be played at the Jordan Mini Met.

Ruth a Dahl, age 91 of Waterville passed away on Wednesday, May 23, 2018 at her home.

Born on January 23, 1927 in Elysian Township, Le Sueur County, Minnesota, she was the daughter of Edgar and Adelia (Roemhildt) Morsching.  Ruth was married to Ray Jahn and she later married Ernie Dahl.

The WEM girls track and field team claimed four first place finishes at the 2018 Gopher Conference Meet Tuesday, May 15. Junior MaeLea Harmon won the 100-meter dash (12.26) and the long jump (17-feet, 5 3/4-inches). Freshman Toryn Richards won the pole vault (9-feet, 6-inches). The 4 x 100-meter relay team also claimed a title, with Harmon, Alexis Morsching, Shelby Hermel, and Richards teaming to win the race in 52.58. WEM finished tied for third with 119 points. Maple River claimed the team championship with 171.5 points.

WEM senior Taylor Glende and sophomore Jaden Taylor each claimed individual titles at the Gopher Conference Meet Tuesday, May 15. Glende won the long jump title with a distance of 20-feet, 1 1/2 inches. Taylor won the pole vault title by clearing 12-feet. Two days later Taylor set a new Buccaneer pole vault record when he cleared 13-feet at Waseca. Also winning a conference championship was the 4 x 100-meter relay team of Glende, Chris Byrne, Tanner Ranslow, and Tyler Hermel in a time of 45.89. WEM finished fourth with 100 points. NRHEG won the boy's title with 231.5 points.

A total of 44 seniors will graduate Friday, May 25 at WEM High School. Emily Stiernagle is the valedictorian and Elijah Bass is the salutatorian. A total of 19 students were named honor students. The WEM softball team defeated United South Central 10-0 in six innings Monday, May 21 and Faribault BA 5-3 Tuesday, May 22 in Section 1A, West Sub-Section Playoff action. WEM, the No. 2 seed in the West Sub-Section, will play No. 1 seed Hayfield in the Sub-Section Championship at 5 p.m. Thursday, May 24 at Austin's Todd Park. If the Bucs defeat Hayfield, they will not play again until Tuesday, May 29 at 5 p.m., also in Austin. If they lose to Hayfield, they will play an elimination game Thursday against the Blooming Prairie vs. Faribault BA winner at 6:30 p.m. in Austin.

Waseca County Jail Administrator Tim Kinniry received an honor Tuesday, May 15 from Waseca County Sheriff Brad Milbrath. Kinniry was one of eight county employees who were cited for efforts above and beyond the call of duty. Kinniry was awarded the Medal of Valor for his work during a January 17, 2018 high speed chase which started in Waseca and ended just west of Owatonna. Despite losing to Maple River 6-2 Thursday, May 17, the WEM baseball team clinched a tie for the Gopher Conference Championship with only one loss in conference play. The Bucs, 10-4 overall, tied with Maple River for the title with a 5-1 record. It was the fourth straight title for the Bucs. WEM is the No. 5 seed in the Section 2AA Tournament and will host No. 12 seed Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop Thursday, May 24 at 5 p.m. in Waterville. If they win, they would play Tuesday, May 29 against either Jordan or Kenyon-Wanamingo.

The 33rd Annual Morristown Dam Days Celebration will begin with the coronation of Miss Morristown 2018 on Wednesday, May 30, at 7 p.m. in the Morristown Community Center, 402 Division Street South. Four young ladies, Heather Thompson, Ellenor Whitney, Alexis Morsching, and Iszabela Kalis, will vie for the Miss Morristown 2018 crown.

Larry Ahlman, a life-long resident of Morristown, has been named the 2018 Dam Days Grand Marshal.

David Phillip Berg, age 89, died on Saturday, May 19, 2018, in Tucson, Arizona from injuries sustained in a fall.

The rural church closed in 1968, but Memorial Day Masses continue to be held at St. Jarlath's Catholic Church once every three years. And, this is St. Jarlath’s year to open its doors and host. It also happens to be church’s 150th anniversary.

A lone bear was spotted walking in a field north of Kilkenny, near the intersection of Highway 99 and County Road 3, on May 1, according to the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources.
DNR Wildlife Resource Biologist Andrew Tri, who is one of two bear research specialists in the state, spoke to the Faribault couple who reported the bear sighting.

A Warsaw man was transported to North Memorial Hospital following an accident at approximately 11:45 a.m. Thursday, May 17. Anthony Arthur Ernste, 69, was driving his 2006 Harley Davidon Roadster eastbound on Highway 60 approximately 1 mile west of Waterville . According to the Minnesota State Patrol report, a Dodge Ram Pick-up driven by John J. Gustav Moore, 76 of Waterville, was also travelling east on Highway 60 when the two collided. The report said the motorcycle slowed for an accident on the left shoulder and the pick-up was not able to stop fast enough to avoid the crash.

The WEM baseball team had its seven-game winning streak ended Monday, losing 4-2 to Blooming Prairie in the second half of a doubleheader. WEM won the opening game of thw twinbill 10-0 in six innings. WIll Storch hit his first home run of the season in the win.
