Two Halloween events are planned for Montgomery and Lonsdale on Friday, Oct. 29.
In Montgomery, the Goblin Drive-thru will be held again at Memorial Park. The Drive-thru trick or treating will happen from 4 to 6 p.m. People should enter Park Street on the west side of the park.
The event is sponsored by the Montgomery Knights of Columbus, Most Holy Redeemer School and the American Legion Auxiliary Unit 79.

Linda J. Walton of Montgomery was called home on October 21 at the age of 81. There will be a Celebration of Life for Linda on Saturday, October 30th from 12:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m., with a prayer and song service at 1:00 p.m., in the Most Holy Redeemer Catholic Church basement in Montgomery.

“Every single relay had personal bests and all-around time improvements,” said TCU Swim Coach Kristen Munden about the Section 1A True Team Swimming and Diving Meet, from October 15 and 16. “This meet was a great set up to the sectional meet upcoming in November. Just around the corner!”
Divers competed Friday night in an 11-Dive event. Lily Traxler and Kalee Barrington represented TCU placing 23rd and 27th.

New changes are coming to how people make phone calls as mandatory 10-digit dialing starts on Sunday, Oct. 24. The Federal Communication Commission’s (FCC) July 2020 Order required all telecommunications carriers, to make any network changes necessary to ensure that users can dial 988 to reach the existing National Suicide Prevention Lifeline: 1-800-273-TALK (8255) by July 16, 2022.

Workers from Barnett Bros. Inc. began the teardown of the building on 100 First Street N on Monday, Oct. 11 and finished Tuesday, Oct. 19. The abandoned property, which was owned by Bob Taraba, was deemed hazardous last year by the City of Montgomery. A Le Sueur County judge ruled in favor of the city’s assessment of the building this summer. After Taraba did not comply with the judge’s order to raze the building by July 31, it became the city’s property. Barnett Bros. Inc. demolished and removed it for $49,400, which are part of the city’s estimated costs of $72,000.

The Montgomery Area Community Club (MACC) announces that it is seeking designs for the 88th annual Kolacky Days button.
“We are looking for designs from any one of any age who feels creative,” said MACC President Tom Washa. “The winning design will appear on the collectible souvenir button and may appear on select advertising. The winner will receive $100 Monty Bucks, a Kolacky Days T-Shirt, an oversized Collectible Kolacky Days Button, two Kolacky Days buttons, media coverage, and see his/her design all over the Kolacky city!”

Katie Trnka, 91, of Montgomery, passed away Monday, Oct. 18, 2021, at Merrywood Senior Homecare in Faribault. Visitation will be held on Friday, Oct. 22 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Most Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Montgomery with Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 1 p.m. with Father George Grafsky officiating. Interment will be held in Calvary Cemetery in Montgomery.
Katie was born on January 30, 1930, in Cordova to John and Martha (Cemensky) Trzecinski. She attended St. Mary’s Parochial School in Le Center.

Maybe you didn’t notice, but according to the U.S. Postal Service mail delivery for many Americans is beginning to slow down.
Is it possible snail for mail to get slower?
Starting October 1, the Postal Service implemented “new service standards for First Class Mail and Periodicals,” meaning an increased time-in-transit for mail traveling long distances, such as from New York to California. The USPS said “most first class mail (61%) and periodicals (93%, these are your third-class-mailed newspapers) will be unaffected” by the changes.

Titan volleyball fans and players traded their school colors of Columbia blue, silver and black for pink on Tuesday, Oct. 5, marking the school’s annual Dig Pink Night.
The event is an annual fundraiser organized by the TCU Volleyball Booster Club that fills the high school gymnasium in support of a cancer survivor. According to Washa Kes, of the Volleyball Booster Club, $3,000 was raised for breast cancer survivor Lucinda (Tulloch) Rose of Montgomery.
“The night was a huge success. It was amazing to see all the fans there to support TCU Volleyball and Lucinda,” Kes said.

LCHS Goals: Elysian Museum, technology updates, artifact inventory
Le Sueur County Historical Society (LCHS) has been busy.
The society, which aims to collect, preserve, and tell the story of Le Sueur County, will be holding its October meeting on Tuesday, Oct. 19 in New Prague at the New Prague Public Library. The meeting starts at 6 p.m. CDC guidelines are followed.

The boys’ and girls’ cross country teams were on the road last week to Waseca. Both teams finished in fourth place out of eight participating schools.
Jordan won the boys race with 41 points to TCU’s fourth-place finish of 90 points. Kaleb Sharp helped his school when he ran across the finish line with a time of 16:51.
TCU junior Dante Juberian was the first Titan to cross the finish line after the 5K race. Juberian finished in 6th place with a time of 17:59. Behind him were Austin Rutt in 15th place with a time of 19:11.

For the first time in the program’s history, the girls varsity soccer team improved its record to a win and tie after the team tied 1-1 against Schaeffer on Saturday, Oct. 9.
Coach Carey Langer praised the girls for their teamwork and performance on the field.

Out of hundreds of entries from TCU Schools and Most Holy Redeemer, Wendoli Castaneda-Gonzalez, a fifth grader at TCU Montgomery Elementary and Middle School, created the winning design. Castaneda-Gonzalez (center) and her classmates learned of the news on Thursday during school by Torchlight committee member Neaner Kriha, who also treated the class to a pizza lunch from Pizzeria201.

Kenneth(Ken) J. Mares, age 61 of Lakeville, passed away on Oct. 10, 2021.  Ken was preceded in death by his loving parents Myles & Dorothy.  He is survived by his sisters Patty Simberg, Rita (Jack) Molumby and his brother Larry.
Per Ken’s wishes he will be cremated and interred with our parents.  Our brother was an uncomplicated man with a heart of gold.  He was loved and we will miss him.  Per his wishes there will be no memorial observance.  We want to thank those who supported us on this journey.  It is appreciated. 

Janet Marie Pan, 75, of Montgomery, passed away Saturday, Oct. 9, 2021, at Mayo Clinic Health System, New Prague. Visitation will be held on Thursday, Oct. 14 from 10 to 11:30 a.m. at Most Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Montgomery with Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 11:30 a.m. with Father Tom Niehaus officiating. Interment will be held in St. John Catholic Cemetery in Montgomery.

Perry Caspers was born September 2, 1954 to Donald W. and Druzella (Rekkedahl) Caspers in Olivia, MN.  He died from complications of thrombocytopenia and pancreatic cancer on Saturday, October 9, 2021 at the Crosby Hospital in Crosby, MN.
He was baptized into the Lutheran Faith at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Bird Island, MN on October 17, 1954.  Sponsors were Harvey and Irene Rekkedahl.  He attended Bird Island Public School and graduated from Bird Island High School in 1973.  He went on to graduate from South Dakota State University in 1978 with a degree in Agronomy.
