Julianne H. Carpentier, age 96, of  New Market, died peacefully with her family present on Saturday, March 9, 2019, at the Northfield Hospital.  Julianne was born on July 25, 1922 in Jordan, MN to Guido and Lena (Lambrecht) Wermerskirchen.  She graduated from St. John the Baptist Elementary School and Jordan High School.  She was employed as a records file clerk for Minneapolis Honeywell for 4 ½ years during WWII.  Following the war, she married the love of her life, Roger A. “Carp” Carpentier on November 26, 1945 at St.

The New Prague Trojan adapted floor hockey team defeated Wayzata/Minnetnoka 12-2 Thursday, March 7, to earn a spot in the State CI Adapted Floor Hockey Tournament March 15-16 at Bloomington Jefferson High School.
The team, which is 10-0 on the season, enters the tournament as the No. 2 seed from the south, and will face Anoka-Hennepin at 6:30 p.m. Friday. Win or lose, they play at least one more game on Saturday.
The team includes students from New Prague, Tri-City United, Le Sueur-Henderson, Belle Plaine and Jordan schools.

New Prague High School's boys basketball semifinal game against Rochester John Marshall scheduled for Saturday, March 9, has been postponed due to the pending snowstorm.
The game will now be played at 7 p.m. Monday, March 11, at the Mayo Civic Center Auditorium, which is adjacent to the Mayo Civic Center Arena, in Rochester.
The semifinal game between Lakeville North and Lakeville South has been moved to 7 p.m. Monday at Farmington High School.
The championship game remains scheduled for 8 p.m. Friday, March 15.

The New Prague Area School Board’s meeting scheduled for Monday, March 11, has been postponed.
The meeting has been moved to Monday, March 18. It will be the only meeting this month due to spring break the following week.

Attorneys for the plaintiffs in the lawsuit against the Le Sueur County Historical Society will hold an informational meeting to bring everyone up to speed on Thursday, March 14. It will be held in the 4-H building on the Le Sueur County Fairground at 4:30 p.m.
According to Kevin Wetherille, one of the attorneys from Jaspers, Moriarty & Wetherille, said the meeting will inform anyone interested in the status of their efforts in the LCHS case.

The Elko New Market City Council at its Thursday, Feb. 28, business meeting unanimously authorized City Administrator Tom Terry to make a conditional offer to Brady Juell to be the city’s new Police Chief and Emergency Management Director. Juell, currently a sergeant with the Chaska Police Department, has accepted and will start in March.

Hunter Nielsen scored 24 points and New Prague made 24 of 27 free throws in a 74-65 win over Rochester Mayo in the first round of the Section 1AAAA boys basketball tournament Wednesday, March 6, in New Prague.
Three other Trojans scored in double figures - Parker Johnson with 19, Tyler Kemp with 16 and Nathan Brusseau with 11.
The game was tied at halftime, and Mayo hit three straight three-pointers early in the second half to open up a nine-point lead, but the Trojans whittled away and regained the lead for good with just under 10 minutes remaining in the game.

New Prague Area Schools held the annual District Elementary Science Fair Saturday, March 2, at New Prague Middle School.

The New Prague Trojan offense stalled late in their Section 1AAAA girls basketball quarterfinals at Lakeville South Wednesday, Feb. 27. That led to a first-round exit by the Trojans, who lost 57- 47 to the Cougars.
New Prague had a slow start, with a couple turnovers and missed shots. That led the Cougars to an early 7-0 lead.
But the Trojans fought back and tied the game on a layup by Kate Seymour. Amanda Giesen gave the Trojans their first lead at 11- 10 with 10 minutes remaining. The lead changed hands several times and the teams went into the locker room tied 26-26.

Donald F. “Donnie” Cervenka, age 67, of Webster, died suddenly after a brief illness on Thursday, March 7, 2019 at Northfield Hospital.  Donnie was born on May 9, 1951 in New Prague to Myles F. and Helen J. (Blaha) Cervenka.  He graduated from New Prague High School and from Faribault Vo-Tech School in small engine mechanics.  Donnie married Janice H. Ryan on May 22, 1976 at St.

Neptune Aquatics, the USA Swimming club based in New Prague, will bring five swimmers to the Minnesota Short Course State Meet Thursday through Sunday, March 7-10, at the University of Minnesota. This year’s state team consists of Taylor Bassett, Alexis Day, Carolyn DeLuca, Ella Schmiesing and Cooper Krance.
“We’re very excited about our Neptune swimmers’ success in qualifying for the Minnesota Short Course State Meet,” says Chuck Webb, Neptune Aquatics head coach. “Their success is a testament to their hard work and dedication to the sport of swimming.”

Daylight Saving Time begins on Sunday, March 10. That is the day most Americans will move their clocks ahead one hour in an attempt to capture an extra hour of daylight in the evening.

The New Prague Trojan adapted floor hockey team defeated Stillwater and Burnsville/Farmington/Lakeville last week.
The Trojans are 8-0 and tied with South Washington County for the Southern Conference lead. The teams were scheduled to play their twice-postponed regular season finale Tuesday, March 5, in New Prague, with the winner getting the No. 1 seed for the playoffs.

The Le Sueur County Board approved the medical director agreement with Dr. Michael Wilcox during the Tuesday, March 5 meeting in Le Center.
Wilcox has been involved in providing emergency medical services to the county for many years. This agreement, which includes a fee of $500, will allow Wilcox to act as medical director for the Le Sueur County Sheriff’s Training Center and provide consultation.

* A renewal of a consumption and display permit was approved for the Caribou Gun Club in Le Sueur.

The New Prague Trojan Adapted Floor Hockey Team will host the Wayzata/Minnetonka Lakers at 4:30 p.m. Thursday, March 7, in a state play-in game. Game time is 4:30 p.m. in the CEC gym.
New Prague is the No. 1 seed in the south division. A win puts them in the state tournament, which will be played Friday and Saturday, March 15 and 16, at Bloomington Jefferson High School.
The squad includes players from New Prague, Tri-City United, Le Sueur-Henderson, Belle Plaine and Jordan schools.
