Taxpayers will be picking up the bill for the clean up of approximately 20 tons of construction waste that was dumped in a Waterville Township ditch on Tuesday, June 5 or Wednesday, June 6.
According to Waterville Township Chairman Alan Gehrke, the mess was discovered along 470th Street on Wednesday morning and was then reported to the township and Le Sueur County Sheriff's Office. The ditch is located north of Waterville and west of Highway 13.
The lawsuit against the Le Sueur County Historical Society took a small step Monday when a judge approved binding arbitration to determine an official membership list.
Mark Vandelist, District Court Judge of Minnesota's First Judicial District, gave both sides of the lawsuit 90 days to enlist in the help of an arbitrator who will simply resolve the question of who are members of the historical society, a nonprofit organization.
Four young ladies will vie for the title of Miss Waterville 2018 during the 62nd Miss Waterville Pageant, which will be held at 7 p.m. Friday, June 8, at the Waterville-Elysian-Morristown High School auditorium.
The contestants include: Morgan Nusbaum, Hannah Petry, Alyssa Schwartz, and Kayleen Stangler.

She has organized the Miss Waterville pageant for almost four decades, and this year, Linda (Meskan) Pommeranz has been named the 2018 Bullhead Days grand marshal in recognition of her dedication to the community.
"It's truly an honor," Pommeranz stated. "I love this community and I've enjoyed putting on the pageant, but this will be my last one--number 40. It's time for me to spend more time with my grandchildren."

Ten Buccaneer athletes will compete in the 2018 Class A State Track and Field Meet Friday and Saturday, June 8 and 9 at Hamline University. All 10 qualified Saturday, June 2 at the Section 2A Meet at Mankato West. The State entrants include seniors Chris Byrne and Taylor Glende, juniors MaeLea Harmon, Alexis Morsching, Shelby Hermel, Tanner Ranslow, Tyler Hermel, and isaac Pratt, sophomore Jaden Taylor, and freshman Toryn Richards. Richards will compete in the pole vault and high jump. Harmon will compete in the 100-meter dash and the long jump.
After failing to resolve issues and determine who is a member, the lawsuit against Le Sueur County Historical Society (LCHS) heads to court on June 4.
Kevin Wetherille, one of the attorneys for the 16 plaintiffs who claim to be members and asked a judge on February 21 to require LCHS to grant them access to financial and governance documents, and for a fair election, said they are still running into barriers.
One of the barriers is the membership list.
Memorial Day programs were held at Elysian, Waterville, Morristown, Kilkenny, and St. Jarlath on Monday morning, May 28.

Iszabela Kalis, daughter of Jacob and Leslie Lee, was crowned Miss Morristown 2018 during the Wednesday night, May 30, pageant. Her royal court includes: First princess Alexis Morsching, second princess Heather Thompson, and third princess Ellenor Whitney.
Mackenzie Chavie, daughter of Curtis Chavie, was crowned Little Miss Morristown. Her royal court includes princesses Nora Boese and Payton Gainor.

A total of 44 seniors will graduate Friday, May 25 at WEM High School. Emily Stiernagle is the valedictorian and Elijah Bass is the salutatorian. A total of 19 students were named honor students. Waseca County Jail Administrator Tim Kinniry received an honor Tuesday, May 15 from Waseca County Sheriff Brad Milbrath. Kinniry was one of eight county employees who were cited for efforts above and beyond the call of duty. Kinniry was awarded the Medal of Valor for his work during a January 17, 2018 high speed chase which started in Waseca and ended just west of Owatonna. The 33rd Annual Morristown Dam Days Celebration will begin with the coronation of Miss Morristown 2018 on Wednesday, May 30, at 7 p.m. in the Morristown Community Center, 402 Division Street South. Four young ladies, Heather Thompson, Ellenor Whitney, Alexis Morsching, and Iszabela Kalis, will vie for the Miss Morristown 2018 crown.

A lone bear was spotted walking in a field north of Kilkenny, near the intersection of Highway 99 and County Road 3, on May 1, according to the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources.
DNR Wildlife Resource Biologist Andrew Tri, who is one of two bear research specialists in the state, spoke to the Faribault couple who reported the bear sighting.
A Warsaw man was transported to North Memorial Hospital following an accident at approximately 11:45 a.m. Thursday, May 17. Anthony Arthur Ernste, 69, was driving his 2006 Harley Davidon Roadster eastbound on Highway 60 approximately 1 mile west of Waterville . According to the Minnesota State Patrol report, a Dodge Ram Pick-up driven by John J. Gustav Moore, 76 of Waterville, was also travelling east on Highway 60 when the two collided. The report said the motorcycle slowed for an accident on the left shoulder and the pick-up was not able to stop fast enough to avoid the crash.

A 2012 Ford Fusion driven by 32-year-old Amber Atherton of Waterville, and a 2010 Ford F-150 driven by Matthew Anderson, 42, of Clear Lake, IA, were involved in the crash at approximately 7:45 p.m. at the intersection of Highway 14 and 598th Ave near Casey's General Store.
