It was a tale of two halves in three games played last week by the WEM girls basketball team.
The Buccaneers trailed at halftime of all three games and outscored all three in the second half, but not by as much as WEM lost three straight games.
WEM lost 53-48 to Blooming Prairie Tuesday, Dec. 5, were defeated 58-49 by Norwood Young America (NYA) Friday, Dec. 8 at Maple River, and were defeated 59- 56 by Belle Plaine Saturday, Dec. 9, also at Maple River High School.
“We need to play with more consistent energy on both ends of the floor right now. We had good stretches in all of our games this week, but had too many long stretches of ineffective offense and we’ve paid for mistakes on the defensive end. We’ll keep working and use these games to make us better moving forward,” head coach Tyler Kaus said.
The Bucs led early in the game against the Blossoms, only to trail 32-20 at halftime. They outscored Blooming Prairie 28-21 in the second half but never led the final 18 minutes.
Alayna Atherton scored 19 points and grabbed a season-high 17 rebounds. Claire Bohlen added 11 points, five rebounds, and seven deflections.
