The WEM volleyball team pulled off a huge upset Friday, Sept. 15 when they traveled to Cannon Falls and defeated the Class A 3rd Rated Bombers in four sets.
The win ended a solid week for the Bucs. They picked up a sweep of NRHEG Thursday, Sept. 14 and were defeated by undefeated Kenyon-Wanamingo Tuesday, Sept. 12.
WEM is now 2-1 in the Gopher Conference and 5-4 overall heading into this weekend’s Midwest Volleyball Classic Friday and Saturday in Burnsville. 13 of the 16 teams in the Class AA bracket are currently rated. Pequot Lakes (1st), Southwest Christian (2nd), Cannon Falls (3rd), Belle Plaine (4th), Caledonia (5th), Albany (6th), Rush City (7th), Chatfield (8th), Nova Classical Academy (11th), Wadena-Deer Creek (12th), Legacy Christian (14th), Concordia Academy (15th), and Jackson County Central (15th) are the rated teams.
Mound Park Academy, Zumbrota-Mazeppa, and WEM are the other three teams entered.
WEM defeats NRHEG 25-21, 25-9, 25-19 In a rematch of the Sub-Section Championship from 2022, Bucs put together a good performance in sweeping the Panthers in a Gopher Conference match.
Senior Claire Bohlen had 12 kills, was 10- of-10 serving with two aces, and added nine digs.
Senior Alayna Atherton had 10 kills and two service aces.
Senior Grace Baker was 24-of-24 serving with five ace serves and added 12 digs.
Senior Josephine Volkmann was 16-of-16 serving with four ace serves and added 14 digs.
