Violet Chromy of New Prague has been named the 2022 Le Sueur County Outstanding Senior Citizen.
She will be honored at the Le Sueur County Fair in Le Center on Sunday, August 21 at 1 p.m. in the Pavillion.
Chromy has been a homemaker her entire life. The 85-year-old is a mother of nine children, grandmother of 26, and great-grandmother of 34. Taking care of her children is not the only activity Chromy has been involved with according to James Simon, who nominated her for the award.

A man from Rice County died in an ATV rollover on August 6.
Marvin George David, 79, was pronounced deceased at 11876 140th St, in Montgomery when rescue officials found him trapped under an ATV.
According to Rice County Sheriff Jesse Thomas, deputies, Lonsdale Fire and Rescue, and Montgomery Ambulance were dispatched to the scene at 5:53 p.m. on a report of a possible deceased person trapped under the ATV.  
“The ATV/victim was located by the landowner's friend. When responding units arrived, the male was confirmed deceased,” Thomas said.

The primary election tomorrow (August 9), runs from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Members of the First and Third Minnesota reenactors participate in the Saturday, July 30, ceremony to honor Civil War veteran Corporal Hercules LaChapelle at the St. Louis French Catholic Cemetery, south of New Prague. Like the variety of flavors of the Bohemian bun, the 88th annual Kolacky Days had a variety of weather Friday to Sunday this year.
The event started out with 91-degree temperatures and partly cloudy skies on Friday afternoon. The Queen’s Pageant crowned new ambassadors, Queen Alexis Hoefs, First Princess and Miss Congeniality Elizabeth Odenthal, and Second Princess Kaia Krocak.

Montgomery’s newest topiary plays the concertina while dressed in floral Czech attire. His dancing partner is also made of flowers and plays the tambourine.
The partner to Montgomery’s female topiary was unveiled on Friday and was displayed at the Arts and Heritage Center on Saturday. It was again designed by Discovery Plus “Clipped” winner Meghan Petricka and her husband, Christopher.

Lonsdale will crown its newest Miss Lonsdale and name new ambassadors in the Lonsdale Coronation on Saturday, Aug. 6 at 7 p.m. at TCU Lonsdale Elementary School. Doors open at 6 p.m.
The new Miss Ambassadors who are up for the title of Miss Lonsdale are Hannah Reis and Andra Sherman. Reis is the daughter of Michelle and Dion Reis. Sherman is the daughter of Jason and Jenny Sherman.

The cast of Generations Theatre Company’s production of “Matilda the Musical” take time for a photo before a rehearsal on Sunday, July 17. The show opens a two weekend run tonight (Friday, July 22) and will be performed at the New Prague High School auditorium, 221 12th St. NE. Shows will be on Friday, Saturday and Sunday on the dates of July 22, 23, 29, 30 at 7:30 p.m. (previous showtimes for those dates were incorrect) and July 24 and 31 at 2 p.m.

After being scored on an evening gown, talent, and interview skills, Alexis Hoefs (left), daughter of Jim and Lisa Hoefs, was crowned the 2022 Kolacky Queen on Friday night. Joining her for the next year is double-winner Elizabeth Odenthal, who won the titles of First Princess and Miss Congeniality. She is the daughter of Randy and Laura Odenthal. The David Domonoske family of Waterville has been named Le Sueur County’s “2022 Farm Family of the Year” by the University of Minnesota.

The American Cancer Society hosted its annual Le Sueur County Relay for Life event, which is a celebration for cancer survivors as well as those who died from the disease. Honorary Survivor Julie Harmon and her family made the Survivor's and Caregivers Lap at the start of the Relay in Le Center.

Completed full-page entries must be turned in to the Montgomery Messenger office or the Montgomery Public Library by August 6, 2022, to be eligible for prizes. Entries will be divided into three age categories: six and under, seven to 17, and adult. One winner from each age category will be selected and will receive a prize.

The Saemrow family has been named Rice County’s 2022 Farm Family of the Year by the University of Minnesota.
Charles Saemrow first settled the Saemrow farm in the early 1890s. Charles’ son, Herman took over the operation in the 1930s. He was followed by his son Herb in the 1950s. Then, in the 1980s, Herb’s sons Ron, Gordon, Keith, and Wayne assumed ownership. The four brothers and their families own and run the operation.
