John Lawrence Fiala, 92, of Lincoln, NE, passed away September 27, 2018, in Omaha. Born on January 9, 1926, in Raymond to Jerome and Bessie (Kratochvil) Fiala. John, a US Navy veteran, worked in Claims as an administrator at State Farm Insurance for many years, retiring in 1989.
He was very proud of his Czech heritage and was a co-founder of the Miss Czech-Slovak US Pageant. He served in many different organizations: Czech Language Foundation, Czechoslovak Society of Arts and Sciences, past president of the NE Czech's of the Panhandle, and NE Czech's Inc.
A past member of Loyal Order of Moose and a Sertoma International. John was a member of First Lutheran Church. He had been a recipient of the AK-SAR-BEN award and was a member of the Great Navy of the State of Nebraska.
Survivors include: daughter-in-law, Janet Fiala, Lincoln; grandchildren Adele Fiala, Scottsbluff, John Fiala, Bellevue, Chris Fiala, Lincoln, Lisa Fiala, Omaha; three great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandson, three godchildren Julie Cleaver, Kristine Williams and Michael Streng; and special friend Jean Skala.
John was preceded in death by his wife, Lois C Fiala; son, Stephen J. Fiala; sister and brother, father, mother and step-father.
Celebration of life service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 3, at First Lutheran Church, 1551 S. 70th Street, Lincoln, NE. Pastor Dan Warnes officiating. No visitation, cremation. Interment in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Omaha.
