The Le Sueur County Board of Commissioners approved renewing telecommuting and remote agreements with county employees at the board’s Aug. 5 meeting.
However, the agreements were only renewed through the end of the year.
“Unlike previous annual approvals, I’m requesting approval through the end of 2025,” Human Resource Director Theresa Kubes told the commissioners. “We’re working to make updates to our policy with a January 2026 effective date.”
Presently, there are 25 employees who telecommute in Le Sueur County, with four who work remotely. All but one of the positions is with Le Sueur County Department of Human Services.
Commissioner John King asked Kubes if the new policy revision would require more on-site attendance.
“That is one of the considerations – is a required office presence,” Kubes said. She added that the four remote workers would be moved to the telecommute agreement and phasing out the remote worker classification.
The renewal was unanimously approved.
Planning & Zoning Le Sueur County Planning & Zoning Administrator Aaron Stubbs brought five items for approval from the planning commission.

“It’s a very clean site,” Commissioner Steven Rohlfing commented. He added that the kennel area is insulated to be soundproof.
“They applied for a permit to have an in-ground pool,” Stubbs explained as to why the application was after the fact. “When our staff did the pre-construction site inspection and came across this business, we contacted the landowner, asked them about it, and they didn’t think they needed a permit from us because they didn’t need a license from the state.”
Emily Probst of Montgomery was approved for a Conditional Use Permit, which would allow for the operation of a cannabis micro business in the Agriculture “A” District located in Montgomery Township.
“I’d say this is step 3 1/2 of 5,” Stubbs said. “To where they have their licensing reapproval from the state, and now they have to prove they have local permitting approval.”
Board Chair David Preisler noted that even if they give approval, state approval is still pending.
An Interim Use Permit was approved that would allow Kristjan Theus of Le Center to establish a Level II Home Occupation to operate a business for cleaning, repairing, customizing and appraising firearms.
