Meghan Bastyr has had multiple jobs over her time here on Earth, including being a mom, a heavy equipment operator, farmer, and more. She went to college to be a nurse, but that isn’t what she went straight into out of college.
    After graduating nursing school in 2008, she worked with her father Rick Renslow, who was also a late-1980’s World Wrestling Federation pro wrestler, in a landscaping business building boulder walls on lake shorelines. That ended when her father passed away in 2008.

Titans start boys soccer season 3-0

    The Tri-City United boys soccer team started its 2026 season by allowing only two goals while posting three straight wins.
    The defending Section Champions defeated Mankato West, 1-0, Wings United (St. James/Windom/Madelia), 10-1, and Worthington, 2-1, in a rematch of the Big South Conference Championship.
    Junior Angel Ruiz Gomez scored the lone goal in the shutout of Mankato West August 29, in the 22nd minute.

    It was a clean sweep for the Tri-City United girls tennis team Tuesday, Sept. 1.
    The Titans improved to 3-3 overall with straight set wins in all seven matches. They only allowed one Eagle player to score more than three points in a set.
    At No. 1 singles junior Ellie Adams was a 7-5, 6-2 winner. Junior Reagan Steffen was a 6-2, 6-0 winner at No. 2 singles. Junior Destynee Wolff was a 6-0, 6-1 winner at No. 3 singles. At No. 4 singles, junior Lexie Berger was a 6-3, 6-0 winner.

    Area residents took full advantage of the event-filled day on Saturday at Lonsdale Community Days.
    Thousands took to the streets and businesses in downtown Lonsdale, starting with the annual Lonsdale Skywarn Breakfast. There were nearly 50 vendors along Main Street, where patrons could eat, drink, buy goods, ask questions, inquire about services, or learn some history.

    The TCU Junior Legion baseball team capped off a thrilling 2026 summer campaign, cementing their standing as one of the premier programs in the region by capturing the Metro Junior Legion League Tier 1A Division Championship and earning a third place finish at the Tier 1A State Tournament. 
    Competing in Tier 1A, a division designated for high schools with grades 10–12 enrollments between 400 and 1,000, TCU put together a dominant, high-octane season built on relentless base running, clutch hitting, and deep pitching.

    Lonsdale Community Days brings a day-plus of events for the family to enjoy, including a new laser light show at 10 p.m. on Saturday evening on North Main Street.
    This year’s grand marshal, Joe Peroutka, is most excited for the kid’s pedal tractor pull at 10 a.m. and Grand Parade at 1 p.m, which he and his family will be a part of. The full schedule of events can be seen on the ad on the back page of this issue of the Messenger.

The Kolacky Days royalty has been crowned for the 92nd annual festival.

Friday's pageant at Tri-City United High School's performing arts center gave way to the next set of representatives of the city of Montgomery. Allison Rynda was chosen as the 2026 Kolacky Days Queen, Aubrie Barnett as 1st Princess, Raena Wiess as 2nd Princess, and Aubrey Flicek as Miss Congeniality.

    Roughly 200 children and some adults climbed inside Eagle Bluff Environmental Learning Center’s portable, inflatable StarLab planetarium at Tri-City United PreK-6 Lonsdale School Monday morning.
    TCU Community Education and Lonsdale Public Library presented four half-hour sessions Monday morning. Each session held about 50 people, with the last session squeezing in about 60 individuals.

    Tri-City United High School will be losing a few excellent clay target shooters going into next season after competing at the USA Clay Target League’s 2026 National Championship in Mason, Mich., July 8-12. A total of 1,800 shooters between individual and teams participated at the event.
    The TCU squad — consisting of Levi Hohrman, Martin Bongers, Jacob Jones, Dylan Carston, and Branko Schoenbauer —  ended up placing 26th out of the 234 teams at nationals.

    Summer blood donations far lower than needed as hospitals work to protect patient care, according to the American Red Cross. 
    The American Red Cross is declaring an emergency blood shortage as the blood supply fell nearly 25% in June. Blood donors are urgently needed to give now to help ensure patients receive lifesaving medical care without delay. The shortage is especially serious for platelets and types O-positive and B-negative blood.

    Tri-City United Schools teamed up with Let’s Smile, Inc. again this past school year to provide $14,002.00 in no-cost dental work for kids enrolled in the school district, according to TCU Community Education Director Layne Wilbright. It’s a partnership that started in the spring of 2024, and there is no cost to the school as well as families.

    Those looking to try a new 4th of July event this year are in luck. The City of Lonsdale announced earlier this year that it would be hosting a Founders Festival on July 3 from 3 p.m. to midnight. 
    A multitude of items will be happening over the course of the day, celebrating both the United States’ 250th anniversary and Lonsdale’s history.

    Student athletes from Tri-City United High School’s trapshooting team competed this past weekend in Alexandria for a spot in the Minnesota State High School League’s (MSHSL) Clay Target State Tournament happening on Friday, June 26.
    USA Clay Target League’s Minnesota State High School Clay Target League’s Trap Shooting Tournament, June 15-23, at Alexandria Community and Technical College’s site, is the qualifier for the MSHSL state event. Only the top 40 teams, and top 100 in both boys and girls, move on to the MSHSL state event.

    Lonsdale Chamber of Commerce’s fourth annual Badges & Bobbers kids fishing event finally had its first good-weather year. The previous few years were plagued with either rain or unpleasant heat. Friday, June 12, though was a mostly sunny and pleasant low-70’s day — the perfect fishing weather.
    The chamber teamed up with Fishing for Life out of Minneapolis, who supplied the kids with the bait, tackle, and other necessary equipment to go fishing with. Kids even got to bring home a free tackle box and pole.

    The Minnesota chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society MS 150 bike ride on Saturday and Sunday, June 13 and 14, brought over 2,000 bicycle riders raising money for charity to Le Sueur County and Montgomery.
    After doing the first 75 miles of their ride in a loop in the southwest portion of the county on Saturday and spending a night at camp in St. Peter, riders made their way through Montgomery on their way to Buck Hill in Burnsville on the second 75-mile track.
