Trojans back on winning track with victory over St. Louis Park

The New Prague girls swimming and diving team had a record setting performance in their 99-71 victory over St. Louis Park Thursday, Sept. 29.

Payten Schieffer broke her own school record in the 100- yard freestyle by almost a second, recording a winning time of 55.08.

“It is great to be back on top and we hope to continue this as we go into what will likely be our closest and most competitive meet of the season Thursday at Waconia,” head coach Cassie Kieffer said. “Waconia and New Prague are basically tied for talent, depth and times... we are very much looking forward to that great meet.”

The seniors on this year’s team were honored at the home meet. A total of nine seniors with a combined 38 years on the team were recognized. They included:

Ava Barsness, daughter of Jeff and Trudy Barsness, on the team 3 years.

Ginny Botta, daughter of Gefri Botta and Elisa Corsini Botta; Host Parents: Dane and Natalie Lund, on the team 1 year.

Amanda Boyer, daughter of Scott and Kathy Boyer, on the team 5 years.

Zoe Bruegger, daughter of Randal and Megan Bruegger, on the team 3 years.

Alli Foust, daughter of Rich and Jo Foust, on the team 6 years.

Piper Johnson, daughter of Travis and Jaimie Johnson, on the team 5 years.

Caitlyn Luckow, daughter of Rob and Rachel Luckow, on the team 6 years.

Emily McCarthy, daughter of Jack Jr. and Deanna McCarthy, on the team 6 years.

Mia Monroe, daughter of Jonathon and Marcie Monroe, on the team 3 years.

Other highlights include for the varsity events, New Prague started the meet with a first and second place finish in the 200-yard medley relay. The relay team of Ella Lund, Carolyn DeLuca, Ginny Botta and Taylor Bassett won the event with a time of 2:00.52.
