School Board looks at changes for busing

The New Prague School Board held its work shop on Monday, Oct. 11, where Director of Operations Craig Most detailed the transportation challenges that the school district is facing. The challenge is due to not having enough drivers for the school district’s bus routes. It is a situation that other school districts around the state have been facing.

Superintendent Tim Dittberner explained that there have been a variety of issues that has led to the shortage of bus drivers. He added they have had teachers and mechanics driving buses.

Most said they also contacted school staff asking for help. Three buildings and grounds staff members have gotten their licenses for driving buses. Most noted that is a temporary situation.

The school distinct recently sent out a letter detailing a proposed plan, which had two possible phases, depending on how many people respond to phase one by the deadline of Thursday, Oct. 14.

In phase one area families, who are able to, were asked to transport their children to and from school or just one way instead of riding the school bus between the dates...
