Robert J. “Bob” Adamek, 79

Robert J. “Bob” Adamek, age 79, of Elko, died Sunday, February 18, 2024, at Mala Strana Health and Rehabilitation Center.  Bob was born on July 10, 1944, in New Prague, to Bill and Katie (Forystek) Adamek.  He graduated from New Prague High School and went on to Mankato Vocational Technical School in Auto Body and Mechanics.  Bob served in the U.S. Army and was a proud member of the New Prague American Legion.  In addition to farming with his parents, he worked at many businesses as an auto mechanic, including New Prague Ford, Walser Ford, Freeway Ford, and Chart Industries, a favorite.  He was a member of the Teamsters Union.

Bob could fix anything, even making his own machinery parts! He was a dedicated conservationist and enlarged a small spring-fed pond in the pasture to be a constant source of water for the cattle.  He was named Conservationist of the Year by Scott County for all his land efforts.  There was no task too large and his vision for the land was unparalleled.

He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed his time with the New Prague Sportsmen Club.  Hiking was a favorite activity and there was no hike that would have been considered too difficult.  He particularly enjoyed trips to California with his sister and hiking the areas in Palm Springs, CA.  Some of those challenged his abilities, but Bob accomplished them with enthusiasm.  He hiked the entire Lewis and Clark Trail and enjoyed seeing Gettysburg.  He enjoyed Public Television and was a faithful supporter of TPT.  Bob’s enthusiasm was infectious, and his ready smile and outgoing personality will be sorely missed.

Bob is survived by his sister, Dottie Hanson of Webster; nephew, Mark (Dianna) Peterson of Blaine; grandnephew and grandnieces, Matthew, Katelyn, & Samantha.  He is preceded in death by his parents.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held Saturday, February 24, at 10:30 a.m. at Bruzek Funeral Home with Father John Lapensky officiating.  Visitation will take place at the funeral home from 9:00 until service time.  Following the service, burial will occur at Holy Trinity Cemetery in Veseli where military honors will be conducted by the New Prague Area Veterans Honor Guard.  Lunch will follow at the Lonsdale Legion Club.
