Maylon F. Palma, 82
Maylon F. Palma, age 82, of New Prague, died peacefully, with his family at his side, after a lengthy stay at Mayo Clinic Health System Hospital Rochester. Maylon was born on October 26, 1941, on the family farm in Webster, Scott County, to Myles M. and Celia (Skluzacek) Palma. He attended New Prague Public Schools and entered the US Army, Company C, 1st Battalion, 2nd Training Regiment. He continued service to his country after active service with 6 more years with the Army Reserves, serving with the New Prague company, where he performed on the Army Reserves Rifle Drill Squad. In the service, he discovered that he loved shooting guns, which led to a lifetime of collecting them as well.
Maylon married Carolyn J. Dahl on June 30, 1962, at Solar Lutheran Church in Webster. He proved to be a businessman at heart, owning and operating Maylon's Arctic Cat for 25 years, which transitioned into commercial property rentals, known as MAC Rentals. He also owned Lonsdale Car Wash for a few years. Along with his business enterprises, he worked as a maintenance supervisor for Anchor Glass in Shakopee, retiring after 40 years.
Maylon was a natural conversationalist, who could strike up a conversation wherever he happened to be. He was personable and no matter where his travels took him, he always met someone who knew him. Maylon was a jokester, who loved to laugh and got others to do the same! He had a community spirit and that, mixed with the love of his boys, caused him to coordinate the New Prague Little League. In turn, that led him to start a T-Ball League! Maylon also enjoyed anything with a motor - motorcycles, boats, pontoons, other watercraft, and, of course, snowmobiles. The watercraft provided many enjoyable trips to their cabin up north. He was a member of the New Prague Snow Drifters and helped start the Le Sueur County Trails Association, for which he served as President for a term.
Maylon's greatest joy came from his family. He was an engaged father for his boys, getting involved in their activities. But he discovered that his grandchildren became the center of his universe once they showed up on the scene. He loved them beyond measure and loved nothing more than sharing a magic trick! His infectious personality, willingness to "shoot the breeze", and warm smile will be missed by all who knew him!
Maylon is survived by his wife of almost 62 years, Carolyn, of New Prague; sons, Darrin (Lisa) Palma of Janesville, WI and Derek Palma (significant other, Beth) of New Prague; grandchildren, Nathanial Edwards & Olivia Palma; sister, Gladys Shippman of Le Center. He is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Myles and Don; sister, Janice Caron.
Celebration of Life Service will be held Saturday, April 6, 2024, at 12:00 Noon at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church with Pastor Alicia Hilding officiating. Visitation will take place at church from 10:00 until service time. Military honors will be conducted by the New Prague Area Veterans Honor Guard at church following the service and lunch will follow in the church social hall. bruzekfuneralhome.com
