Lawrence J. Schoenbauer, 94

Lawrence J. Schoenbauer, age 94, of New Prague, died unexpectedly at his home, on Friday, November 22, 2024.  Lawrence was born on September 9, 1930, on the family farm in Helena Township, Scott County, MN, to Joseph B. and Rose L. (Tuma) Schoenbauer.  He met the woman that he would spend his life with at the country school they attended.  He and Mae Ann Kubes were married on September 24, 1955, at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church.

Lawrence was man of simple wants and dedicated to the land.  He was a crop and dairy farmer all his life and enjoyed gardening as well.  After retiring from farming, he continued driving his John Deere tractors for his sons, helping harvest and haul hay.  Quiet and reserved, when he did open up, his memories were spot-on and wise.  Cards were an enjoyable pastime.  He loved fishing and when Mae Ann was still living, they especially enjoyed fishing at the annual family reunion "up north".

Lawrence is survived by his children, Alvin (Natalie) Schoenbauer of Elbow Lake, Carl (Helen) Schoenbauer of Jordan, Larry Schoenbauer (Diane Warnke) of New Prague, Gregory Schoenbauer (Pam Murdock) of New Prague; 10 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Margie Schoenbauer, Pat Kubes, Jeanne Kubes, Mary Jo Kubes, all of New Prague, Mary Lou Kubes of AZ.   He is preceded in death by his wife, Mae Ann, on July 28, 2014; sister, Evelyn (Ed) Sticha; brother, Glen.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday, November 27, 2024, at 1:00 p.m. at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church with Father Eugene Theisen officiating.  Visitation will take place at Bruzek Funeral Home on Tuesday from 5-7 p.m. and Wednesday morning from 11-12:30. Burial will occur at St. Wenceslaus Cemetery, followed by lunch at the KC Hall.
