ENM Council honors employees for years of service
The Elko New Market City Council honored city staff and firefighters at the council’s Thursday, March 13, meeting. Mayor Andrew Ganfield read a brief biography of each person and congratulated them. The Elko New Market City Council honored 10 of its employees at its Thursday, March 13, meeting. A brief biography was read for each employee, including what department they work in, their position and their history with the city.
Mayor Andrew Ganfield read each biography and presented the employees with a certificate or plaque.
City Administrator Tom Terry said the council recognizes city employees on milestone anniversaries, including five years, 10, 15 and 20 years, plus five-year increments beyond that. The city’s firefighters are recognized on their 10 and 20 years and five-year increments beyond that.
Those who began working for the city in 2019 were Derek Cavanaugh in July, Lynda Jirak in March and Kellie Stewart in January.
Cavanaugh began as a maintenance worker, and was promoted to a lead worker in 2024 and holds a Class C water license and SC sewer license. Ganfield noted Cavanaugh worked a continuous 30 days in 2023 to oversee an aquifer pump test for the city.
Jirak is the city’s deputy clerk, her responsibilities includes being in charge of elections, records, business licenses and serves as primary staff liaison to the Community and Civic Events Committee and Fire Rescue Days committee. She received the professional designation of Minnesota certified municipal clerk in 2022 and certified municipal clerk in 2023.
Stewart began with Elko New Market as an accountant and has served as the city’s finance specialist since 2023. She is responsible for the city’s accounting operations and system, HR (Human Resources), employee benefits, budget and insurance.
