Edith was born along with her twin sister Mary, on January 22, 1932, to Joseph and Anna Skluzacek. She was proud of her Czech heritage. She graduated from New Prague High School. She met Gene at a dance at Herman’s Hall in Lonsdale, and they exchanged wedding vows on October 12, 1954. They had almost 60 years together, and raised 9 children.
The most important thing in her life was her family and faith. Edith volunteered at St. Johns helping at funerals for many years. She also did Meals on Wheels for several years. Family was what mattered most, but Edith also enjoyed the outdoors. If there was anything to be done on the farm, she was always there to help, and also had a large garden, in which we all enjoyed all of the berries, and vegetables she so graciously passed along to us year after year, along with fresh eggs. Her kindness and selfless, generous heart will be remembered by us all.
Preceded in death by her parents; husband, Eugene; siblings, Helen (George) Voracek, Clare (Syl) Nickolay, Joseph Skluzacek, Mary (Leo) Scheffler, and Gilbert Skluzacek. Edith is survived by her children, Jane (Greg) Smith, Diane (Kevin) Gerdes, Margaret (Richard) Duckstad, Marilyn Schnacky, Lori (Larry) Russell, John (Rachel) Connelly, Theresa Spicer, Betty (Paul) Firman, Julie (Tony) Jelle; 20 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Elsie Skluzacek; many nieces and nephews.
We would also like to extend a special Thank You to the Minnesota Hospice team for their special care, as well as all the wonderful caring staff at Savage Senior Living. We are grateful for all of you.
