The best laid plans

More than once I’ve heard the saying, “The best laid plans of mice and men often go astray.” For those who want to get technical it is based on a Robert Burns poem “To a Mouse” that is originally, “The best-laid schemes of mice and men, Go oft awry.”

Awry is a good word for the last few days. Work on Main Street is still progressing, but for The Consignment Lodge and Downtown Sound, things are still up in the air as of press time as to when or how they will be able to reopen.

Personally this is one of those times it’s hard to write about since I know nearly all the parties involved. The business owners and city staff are people that I see and talk to nearly every week.

The one thing that does help this situation is hearing or reading about the community support the two businesses are receiving. It’s the one aspect of working at a community newspaper that helps, is that there are people showing they care for those involved.

Hopefully we can get through this relatively easy, but that is something we will have to wait and see.

On a totally different subject it’s been good to see that there are signs that some usual spring events will be held. For New Prague High School, two of those events are the Prom and graduation. As of now there will be a Grand March for the Prom and the high school is planning an outdoor graduation ceremony to honor all its seniors.

Those are events that young people will get to enjoy, although there will be some changes, it will still happen.
