Trojans’ floor hockey team continues its balanced attack

After splitting its first two games, the New Prague floor hockey team has enjoyed surge, overwhelming opponents with plenty of offensive and solid defensive play as well.

The Trojans have scored 29 goals in three games. The most recent, a 13-goal effort against Owatonna, is a sign the Trojans’ offense is rounding into form. The win improved the Trojans’ record to 3-1.

New Prague played Chaska/Chanhassen/Shakopee/ Prior Lake co-operative team Tuesday, Jan. 30, after The New Prague Times went to press. Today,Thursday, Feb. 1, New Prague will host South Suburban at 4:30 p.m.

Trojans 13, Owatonna 0 The Trojans blew the game open early and cruised to the win against the Huskies last week. They scored 10 times in the opening period and enjoyed the luxury of allowing JV players to receive valuable playing time.

“We came out strong and opened up the game right away. Elliot Soukup had his hat trick locked up in the first period,” said NP coach Jeremy Kalal. “We showed how powerful our offense can be and how dominant our defense/goaltending can be when we start fast.”

New Prague scored the second period’s lone goal and outscored the Huskies, 2-0, in the final period.

“It was a nice game for us to start so strong and control the entire game,” Kalal said. “Our starters were able to keep things under control so we were able to get all of our JV players some significant time.”

Aside of Soukup’s three goals, four players scored twice – Lorelai Hamre, Tryston Seger, Carter Tupy and Logan Bremel. Hammer and Bremel helped set up goals as well. Luke Ryburn and Bobbi Star rounded out the scoring for the Trojans. Defensively, New Prague was equally as solid. The defense allowed 13 shots which Trojans’ goalie Landon Malecha easily turned aside.

“We are starting to make progress with our passing and we are looking solid all the way around the floor right now,” Kalal said.
