St. Patrick holds DRS lead, fight for second includes five teams

St. Patrick, Faribault, and Montgomery are on the upswing in the DRS Amateur Baseball standings. Prior Lake is heading the other way.

The Irish lead the league by three games with a 14-3 record after downing Prior Lake, 7-6, in 11 innings Sunday, July 11. The loss was one of three this past week by the Lakers.

Faribault is 4-1 in their past five games and have climbed into third place with an 11-6 record. Union Hill is in second place with a 10-5 record.

The team which has made the biggest jump is Montgomery. The Mallards started 3-7 but have won six straight games to move into a fifth place tie with Prior Lake at 9-7. New Prague is in fourth place with a 9-6 record.

Games Wednesday, July 7 included St. Benedict edging Shakopee (1-0), Belle Plaine downing Veseli (3-2), Faribault over Red Wing (4- 2), and New Prague downing Prior Lake (7-3).

The Orioles were led by Bryce Novak and Gavin Bergman who had three hits each. Paddy Timmer had a pair of doubles and two RBI. Nathan Sprouls struck out nine in seven innings and TJ Bergland pitched the final two innings for the save.

Games Friday, July 9 included non-league wins for Union Hill over Janesville (3-1), St. Patrick over Cannon Falls (18-7), and New Market over New Prague (5-2). Ben Buthe had two hits for the Orioles. Gavin Bergman and Jacob Deutsch knocked in the two runs.

In other games, Faribault shut out Webster (6-0), Montgomery routed Shakopee (15-3), and Lonsdale shutout Prior Lake (7-0). Joe Sokol pitched a 4-hit complete game for the Aces.

Games Sunday, July 11 included Faribault downing Veseli (8-1), Montgomery shutting out Shakopee in seven innings (10-0), Webster defeating St. Benedict (1-0), St. Patrick edging Prior Lake in 11 innings (7-6), and Union Hill knocking off Lonsdale (12-7).

Peter Tviete, Jacob Belille, and Luke Allen combined on a threehitter for Webster. Max Drexl had a pair of hits for the Sox.

Ross Beumer had five hits and a pair of doubles for Lonsdale. Isaac Pint added a solo home run and Jordan Yetzer had a double. Leading the Bulldogs was Conrad Masberg with a grand slam homer in the eight-run sixth inning. Masberg finished with three hits while Jack Kreutzian and Will Busch each had a pair of hits.

Kreutzian picked up the win on the mound, completing six innings, allowing only one earned run on seven hits. Joe Becker collected the save with three scoreless innings. Phil Tisdel pitched 5 1/3 innings for the Aces. Adam Fjerstad pitched 2/3 of an inning and was charged with the loss, allowing five runs on three hits.

Corbin Cross was 2-for-5 with two runs scored, two RBI, and two doubles for Prior Lake.

Luke Tupy struck out 13 batters in six innings and Zach Seurer picked up the win for the Irish, allowing one hit over the final four innings. Jack Friedges and Kal Brohmer each added three hits.
