Shrek Jr. gets performance it was denied in 2020
This weekend Generations Theatre Company will present Shrek Jr., a production that was all set to go in 2020, but was cancelled on its opening night due to COVID- 19 restrictions. There are three shows that will be performed at the New Prague High School auditorium, 221 12th St. NE. The first is 7:30 p.m. on Friday, July 9, the next two are at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, July 10. Cost is a donation to Generation Theatre Company’s scholarship fund.
Shrek Jr. originally was to be the 2020 spring production at New Prague Middle School. Students had studied and worked on the musical, based on the 2001 Dreamworks animated movie.
This show is being directed by Jane Samsal, NPMS director, and Elise Lundeen, who has directed many of Generation Theatre Company’s productions. Lundeen explained that a few parents emailed Generations Theatre about whether they could help revive the production. The New Prague based theatre company found that the costumes for Shrek Jr. were still up and ready for use. One thing was that the cast members were all two years older with some now going to be sophomores at New Prague High School.
