Playoffs start this weekend Final night in DRS Baseball League has huge consequences

With only one night remaining in the DRS Amateur Baseball League schedule, a handful of teams are still looking to move up in the standings in order to receive a playoff bye.

The teams played Wednesday, July 27 in their final evening of regular season play.

St. Patrick (19-2 record in DRS) has clinched the No. 1 seed in the Region 6C Playoffs, which will feature eight teams from the DRS League. Montgomery (14-7) and Union Hill (13-8) have also clinched byes into the Class 3C Playoffs, which start Friday, August 5 or Saturday, August 6.

New Prague (12-9), Faribault (11-10), and St. Benedict (11-10) are all fighting for one of those top five spots. Prior Lake (10-12) is locked in as the No. 7 seed and they will play a best-of-three series with Veseli (3-18), the No. 10 seed. Shakopee (1-20) is the No. 11 seed and will play the No. 6 seed which could be New Prague, Faribault, or St. Benedict in a best-of-three Webster (9-12) and Lonsdale (8-13) will be there No. 8 and/or No. 9 seeds and will play in a best-of-three series.

These League Playoffs among the bottom six teams in the DRS will be held Friday, July 29 if teams have lights or Saturday, July 30 if they don’t. The second games will be played Sunday, July 31. If a third game is needed, it will be played Tuesday, August 2.

The three winners of these bestof-three series will advance to the eighth-team Region 3C Tournament, along with the top five teams in the DRS.

In DRS games last week:

Waterville knocked off New Prague, 5-3, in a non-league game which was part of the Fox 9 Town Ball Tour Wednesday, July 20 and Prior Lake edged Union Hill, 7-6. Prior Lake 7, Union Hill 6

Johnny Houston hit a home run and knocked in five runs for Prior Lake. Teammates Ben Blaney and Jared Lehrer each added three hits.

Jack Kreutzian was 2-for-3 with two RBI and Joe Becker had a pair of hits for the Bulldogs. St. Patrick 11, Webster 1

The Irish picked up a 10-run win over the Sox on Thursday, July 21. Collin Denk was the winning pitcher, striking out eight. Kyle Rhodus knocked in four runs and smacked a three-run homer. Jack Taxdahl knocked in three runs and Ben Taxdahl added a home run. Alex Beumer was the losing pitcher for Webster.

There were four games played Sunday, July 24. Prior Lake shutout Shakopee, 9-0, St. Patrick shutout Veseli, 11-0 in seven innings, St. Benedict edged New Prague, 6-4, and Webster shutout Faribault, 8-0, behind a 14 strikeout complete game by Peter Tveite. He also hit a 2-run homer. St. Patrick 11, Veseli 0, 7 innings

Ben Taxdahl, Ryan Friedges, and Ian Segna hit home runs and Zach Seurer was the winning pitcher for the Irish. Matt Perkinson was charged with the loss.

There were a couple of make-up games Monday. Joey Grote pitched a complete game for Faribault in an 8-3 win over St. Benedict. Union Hill edged Lonsdale, 7-5. Union Hill 7, Lonsdale 5

Five home runs were hit in this game Monday. Conrad Masberg, Nathan Osbourne, and Nate Lee hit long balls for Union Hill. Zach Breeden and Brad Davis hit homers for the Aces. Masberg pitched a complete game, allowing one earned run on three hits. He struck out a season-high 13. Joe Sabal and Tyler Nelson pitched for the Aces.
