Rice County Master Gardener volunteers to host annual Arbor Day tree giveaway

The Rice County Master Gardener volunteers are hosting their annual Arbor Day tree and shrub giveaway on Friday, April 30, at the Rice County Fairgrounds in Faribault. The giveaway will take place from 3:30-5:30 p.m., while supplies last.

The giveaway will take place as a drive-through, minimal contact event. Everyone is welcome to drive through the fairgrounds and select a free tree or shrub seedling. Participants should enter the fairgrounds from Second Avenue NW and there will be signs indicating the flow of traffic.

People will remain in their vehicles the whole time and Master Gardener volunteers will hand them a seedling through their vehicle window once they’re under the carport. The following varieties of bare-rootstock seedlings will be available to choose from: maple, bur oak, nannyberry, and red twig dogwood.

Come and enjoy a fun spring tradition and get your gardening started by planting a tree or shrub to enhance your yard and beautify our earth. For more information contact Lorrie Rugg, Rice County Program Coordinator, at brow3298@umn.edu or 507-332-6109.
