Heidelberg Community Day has largest crowd

Heidelberg Community Day had beautiful fall weather on Sunday, Sept. 11, which is why it likely had its largest crowd for the annual celebration. Held in Heidelberg Park the annual celebration in the city six miles southwest of New Prague offered something for everyone. There were inflatable play areas for children, a large assortment of vendors for the whole family and food. There was also a Car Show for car enthusiasts. All proceeds from Heidelberg Community Day go to maintain Heidelberg Park, which is maintained by the Heidelberg Athletic Association.

Heidelberg Community Day also had visiting dignitaries. Montgomery’s Kolacky Day Royalty showed up around 11:30 a.m., before they had to go to Northfield’s Defeat of Jesse James Days. All three girls are from the Heidelberg area: Kolacky Queen Alexis Hoefs, First Princess/Miss Congeniality Elizabeth Odenthal, and Second princess Kaia Krocak.

The Montgomery Historical Society displayed their Steam Engine and all youth were invited to blow the horn on the engine.

A 1966 Tom Hoover Dragster owned by Greg Barta was on display and actually started for all spectators to see and hear. More than 170 Cars were registered for the Car Show and there were others there just for show.

Princess Kay of the Milky Way Rachel Rynda arrived at 1 p.m. and was introduced to the crowd. Crowned just before the State Fair, Rynda of Montgomery is serving as the official goodwill ambassador for Minnesota dairy farm families. Rynda is another local girl, her family’s dairy farm is just two miles south of Heidelberg. At 3 p.m. she helped hand out the Car Show Awards.

To see who won the awards pick up a printed copy of the September 15, 2022 paper of The New Prague Times, Montgomery Messenger or the LifeEnterprise.
