TCU High School’s CIS class meet United States Poet Laureate Ada Limon. Limon is seen in the center of the students with the dark dress coat and golden blouse.

Tri-City United High School students, from the College in Schools (CIS) Introduction to Literature: Poetry, Drama, Narrative class, had the opportunity to meet U.S. Poet Laureate Ada Limon during her visit to the University of Minnesota in the Twin Cities.

CIS classes are courses offered through the University of Minnesota, similar to what most people know as advanced placement or AP classes. The coursework is signed up for separately by students and taught by teachers in their own high school.

Jen Davidson teaches this CIS class at TCU High School, and the class took a trip to the university in the Twin Cities during Limon’s visit. It was an enriching experience, providing students with a unique opportunity to connect with a renowned figure in the world of poetry.

During a poet laureate’s term, they seeks to raise the national consciousness to a greater appreciation of the reading and writing of poetry. They serve as the official poet of the United States.

Limon is the 22nd U.S. Poet Laureate, starting in 2022. She served a one-year term, which ended September 2023, and is currently serving a two-year term as the laureate, which will end in 2025.
