Students visit 'bag' ladies

Kindergartners learned about compassion, giving back, and how a group of dedicated volunteers are improving the lives of homeless people on Monday, April 25.

The students from Most Holy Redeemer School visited the self-titled “Bag Ladies” when they visited the American Legion, and learned how the almost all-female group creates sleeping mats from grocery store plastic bags.

Darlene Wondra, who works at MHRS explained how volunteers work in specific stations to flatten, roll, cut off the ends, ball, and crochet. She said approximately 750 bags goes into each body-length mat, which is finished with a small heart pendant to show it was made with love.
