Future Farmers of America holds regional contest

Tri-City United Schools Future Farmers of America (FFA) chapter held a regional contest March 1 at the high school and the American Legion in Montgomery.

Students competed in three areas of career development: small animals, meats, and forestry. The forestry and meats competition were held at the American Legion and the small animals portion was held at the performing arts center at the high school.

A total of 34 FFA chapters from Region 7A visited to compete. There were 22 teams, 12 schools, and over 200 participants.

TCU came in second for two categories. The TCU meat team took second, out of 20 teams, with a score of 874. Watertown-Elysian-Morristown was first in this category with 895.

The TCU small animals team came in second out of 26 teams with a score of 1513. Sibley-East took first place in this category with a score of 1570.

A few individual competitors did excellent in their categories for Tri-City United as well.

Elizabeth Odenthal came in first, with a score of 353, and Tyler Schatz came in eighth, with a score of 285, in the individual meats category. There were 87 competitors in the small meats individual category.

Olivia Sawatzky came in first, with a score of 561, in the small animals individual category.
