Council to interview three for Svoboda seat

The City Council will interview three residents later this month, who submitted interest forms, to fill a seat on the council that will be left by Joy Svoboda on December 1.

Svoboda is moving outside the city limits and will no longer be eligible to serve on the the council or Economic Development Authority.

The letters of interest came from Mark Arendt, Dennis Smith, and Dennis Lambrecht, who served on the council until Svoboda won his seat in the 2020 election.

The candidates names were released during a city council work session on Monday, Nov. 1.

Mark Arendt In his letter, Arendt said he and his wife, Amy, built a new home in Montgomery at the end of July.

“We moved from Bloomington and could not love living here more!” he stated.

The 52-year-old owns Innovative Media Systems in Edina, and has raised children, coached youth sports, and played hockey. The couple owns a cabin on French Lake in Faribualt.

He believes he is qualified for a seat on the council from his years of experience running a business through good times and bad.
