Hollermann will play professionally in Germany

Rose Hollermann, daughter of John and Michele Hollermann of Elysian, has committed to play for Germany’s professional wheelchair basketball team, RSV LahnDill. The team made the announcement on June 1.

RSV Head Coach Janet Zeltinger stated: “We are delighted to have signed Rose, one of the strongest players in the world, whose enormous physicality makes her a high-scoring threat. With her enormously ambitious athleticism, she is a perfect fit for our team.”

Hollermann most recently played for the professional Spanish club BSR ACE Gran Canaria.

“It’s exciting to feel like I’m moving up in the professional league, the team I’m moving to is historically one of the best teams in Europe,” Hollermann stated. “I’m sad to be leaving Spain and the culture I’ve come to love, but I am excited to get to learn a new country.”

In 2001, Hollermann and her family were involved in a car accident that took the lives of two of her three brothers and caused her to be partially paralyzed from the waist down. As part of her rehabilitation, she was introduced to swimming at the Courage Center in Minneapolis and was introduced to various para-sports, but it wasn’t until 2004 that she discovered her talent and passion for wheelchair basketball when she started playing for a club team.

Her athleticism, work ethic, and drive helped her shine on the court, and soon she began receiving offers to play for high-level teams.

In 2011, Hollermann became one of the youngest players on the U.S. women’s wheelchair basketball team at age 15 and went on to play in multiple World Championships and participated in the Paralympic Games in London, Rio (2018 - gold medal finish), and Tokyo (2020 - bronze medal finish).

Hollermann played collegiate basketball at the University of Texas at Arlington and graduated with a degree in Elementary Teaching in 2019 (and studied German).

“I can speak a little bit of German, but certainly not a lot. I’m hoping that as I live there I can learn it,” shared Hollermann, who is a 2014 graduate of Waterville-Elysian-Morristown High School.

“I’m back home in Minnesota until August when I will be moving to Germany. In-between now and then, I have one competition with the USA team in Brazil in July to qualify for our World Championship.”
