Elysian claims Firefighter Floor Hockey Championship
The first hat trick, the first overtime, the first shootout, and first-time winners highlighted a fantastic night for a fantastic cause.
More than $2,500 and many toys and gifts were collected Saturday, Dec. 14 during the 2nd Annual Waterville Fire Fighter Floor Hockey Tournament.
The tournament featured firefighters from Elysian, Kilkenny, Morristown, and Waterville.
Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots program was the recipient of the funds and gifts. According to Waterville fire fighter Patrick Anderson, Toys for Tots did their toy distribution this weekend and helped 1,043 families this year.
The results of the evening’s floor hockey had Elysian edging Waterville, 2-1 in overtime, in the championship, avenging a loss in the title game last year.
Kilkenny defeated Morristown for third place in a rematch of last year’s third place battle, which Kilkenny also won.
In the preliminary round, Waterville defeated Kilkenny, 5-1, behind a hat trick from Sam Stier. In the other first round game, Elysian edged Morristown, 2-1.
Sam Stier scored two goals and Ryan Knish added a goal giving Waterville a 3-0 lead over Kilkenny. Brady Hiller scored Kilkenny’s lone goal halfway through the 15 minute contest. Stier added a third goal and Dalton Grose also scored for Waterville.
