St. Andrew's will celebrate mortgage payoff June 24
The congregation of St. Andrew's Catholic Church in Elysian will celebrate the retirement of the mortgage on their new church on Sunday, June 24. The building, which was completed in 2007, is the third church for the parish. The festivities will begin with a noon Mass followed by a chicken dinner and the mortgage burning ceremony. Everyone is invited. “It is a real tribute to the parishioners of St. Andrew that they made the sacrifices necessary to build this magnificent church. Our church will be a beacon of hope for the future,” stated Father Michael Ince, who has been pastor of the parish since 1992. A commemorative booklet documenting the parish’s 129-year history has been created by Genevieve Roessler and Mary Walchuk for the celebration. Check out the June 21 edition of the LIFE/Enterprise for more on the history of this church.
