Locals involved in Eagle Lake crash

A two-vehicle accident in Eagle Lake Saturday evening, May 5, injured three.
A 2012 Ford Fusion driven by 32-year-old Amber Atherton of Waterville, and a 2010 Ford F-150 driven by Matthew Anderson, 42, of Clear Lake, IA, were involved in the crash at approximately 7:45 p.m. at the intersection of Highway 14 and 598th Ave near Casey's General Store.
According to reports from the Minnesota State Highway Patrol, Atherton was northbound on 598th Ave. turning to go west onto Highway 14 and Anderson was driving eastbound on Highway 14, when the two vehices collided at the intersection of 598th and eastbound Highway 14.
Atherton's daughter, Charli, 6, a passenger in the Fusion, was airlifted to Hennepin County Medical Center (HCMC) in Minneapolis, with life-threatening injuries.
Atherton and her 4-year-old son, Bentley, also a passenger, were transported by ambulance to Mayo Clinic Health System in Mankato, and later transported by ambulance to HCMC with non-life threatening injuries.
The young victims' names were not released by the Highway Patrol, but were given to the newspaper by Atherton's mother, Deb.
Anderson, along with his passengers Jarod Anderson, 20, of Clear Lake, and Cole Gauch, 22, of Bondurant, IA, were reportedly not injured in the crash.
Deb Atherton shared that her daughter and grandchildren continue to improve but remain at HCMC.
According to the report, alcohol was not a factor in the crash and all of the occupants in the vehicles were wearing their seatbelts.
