Yackly scores 2 OT goals to give Trojans pair of wins

The New Prague Trojan boys hockey team lost its opening game to Shakopee, but rebounded with a pair of overtime wins to start the season 2-1 under first year Coach Cory Lonke. Grant Yackly scored the winning goals in both wins for New Prague.

The Trojans were scheduled to travel to Red Wing Tuesday, Dec. 4, and play at Bloomington Jefferson at 7 p.m Saturday, Dec. 8. New Prague renews a rivalry with former Missota Conference foe Holy Angels on Tuesday, Dec. 11, at Richfield.

Sabers 5, Trojans 0 Shakopee broke open a close game with three late goals to take a 5-0 win over New Prague in the Trojans’ season opener.

New Prague managed just 11 shots on goal in the game. Shakopee got the first goal of the game midway through the first period, and that goal held up until midway through the third, when the Sabers made it a 2-0 game. The Sabers scored three goals in the game’s last six minutes, one of them an empty-netter.

Collin Dorzinski was in goal for New Prague and made 16 saves. New Prague was outshot 21-11.

Trojans 3, Scarlets 2 Mankato West scored early in both the first and second periods, but each time the Trojans answered back and eventually claimed a 3-2 overtime win over West. The gamewinner came on a penalty shot by Yackly after a West defender was called for covering the puck in the crease.
