Trojans drop 3 in rough week

The New Prague Trojan girls basketball team had a rough week last week, losing two games decisively, then losing a third on a buzzer beater.

The Trojans (2-5) were scheduled to face Bloomington Jefferson Tuesday, Dec. 18. They have two games against Section 1AAAA foes this week, traveling to Lakeville South Thursday, Dec. 20, and to Farmington on Friday, Dec. 21, for a 6 p.m. game as part of a girlboy doubleheader. The Trojans travel to Moorhead next week for a holiday tournament. They will open against Osseo at 4 p.m. Friday, Dec. 28, then face either Moorhead or Red Lake on Saturday, Dec. 29.

Eagles 75, Trojans 53 New Prague and Bloomington Kennedy faced off in Bloomington Tuesday, Dec. 11, and the host Eagles dominated the second half on their way to a 75-53 win.

The teams had a tight first half, with the Trojans staying close and even grabbing a lead late in the half. Kennedy led 30-28 at halftime, but outscored New Prague 45-25 in the second half.

Turnovers hurt the Trojans. They had 28 turnovers and Kennedy scored 28 points off those turnovers. New Prague was led by Amanda Giesen with 17 points, followed by Emily Russo with 16. Others scoring were Bethany Vasecka (7), Hannah Lindell (4), Emma Anderson (3) and Molly Giesen, Kate Seymour and Jasmine Cooper (2 each). Russo had 12 rebounds for a double-double.
