Trojan girls split first two games

The New Prague Trojan girls basketball team split its first two games of the season last week, both at home. The Trojans opened with a loss to Shakopee, but rebounded in a big way with a 70-22 win over Rochester Century.

New Prague was scheduled to face Blaine Tuesday, Dec. 4. They will play Friday, Dec. 7, at Prior Lake and then travel to Bloomington Kennedy on Tuesday, Dec. 11. The Trojans host Chaska on Thursday, Dec. 13.

Sabers 70, Trojans 56 The Trojans opened the season Tuesday, Nov. 27, losing to Shakopee 70-56. Shakopee opened the game on a 9-1 run to take a big lead, but the Trojans bounced back and took the lead on two occasions in the first half, only to fall behind by nine points at halftime, 40- 31.

Shakopee led by as many as 14 points in the second half, but the Trojans came back and closed to within four points on several occasions before the Sabers pulled away with the win. Junior Emily Russo led the Trojans with 25 points, including five three-pointers. She was 5-of-7 from threepoint range. Amanda Giesen added 16 points. Other Trojans scoring included Bethany Vasecka (7), Kate Seymour (6), and Hannah Lindell (2).
