Trojan girls soccer tops East for first win

The New Prague Trojan girls soccer team split a pair of games last week, defeating Mankato East 3-1 for its first win of the season, then losing to Lakeville North 3-0.

New Prague, 1-3 on the season, plays at Mound Westonka at 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 6, and at Rochester Mayo at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 8. They will host Glencoe- Silver Lake Tuesday, Sept. 11, at 7 p.m., and play at Waconia at 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 13.

Trojans 3, Cougars 1 New Prague picked up its first win of the season, using a dominant first half on their way to a 3-1 win over Mankato East Tuesday, Aug. 28.

“I told the girls before the game that we deserved to win this one. We have worked hard to start the season, but hadn't gotten the results to show for it,” Coach Matt Anderson said. ”We came out of the gate fast and led 2-0 at half time on a pair of goals from Aidan McLoone.” East scored a few minutes into the second half to make it 2-1.

“We have been working really hard on how we respond to setbacks. We were able to slow East's momentum by playing with energy,” Anderson said.

With about 10 minutes remaining the Trojans got an insurance goal when McLoone completed the hat trick. Eliza Lynch, Angeli Breiner, and Payton Morris all assisted on McLoone's goals.

“When we needed some energy, Izzy Hendren gave us a spark off the bench,” Anderson added.
