Trojan girls shut out three straight teams

The New Prague girls’ soccer team recorded three straight shutouts.

The Trojans fell to Holy Family, 5-0, Sept. 14. They rebounded with a 1-0 win over Jordan Sept. 15.

They ended last week with a pair of 0-0 ties against Orono Sept. 22 and Hutchinson Sept. 24.

Here is a look at the four matches.

“We played against a really strong team in Holy Family. We were able to create some pressure, but their defense did a nice job of staying disciplined and shutting down our opportunities,” head coach Matthew Anderson said. “Overall, we did a pretty good job defensively. Holy Family has some good athletes that were able to capitalize on their chances.”

Anderson said Keelie Buesgens and Evie Wegner did a nice job controlling the midfield, while Aubrey Weckman and Rian Gibson played well on the back line. Taylor Stepka made 11 saves in the loss.

The win over Jordan was a good bounce back game for the Trojans.

“We did a nice job of controlling the ball and the pace of the game. When we controlled the pace, we made Jordan chase the game,” Anderson said. “We were able to possess most of the game and Payton Morris broke the tie with the game winning goal in the second half.”
