Trojan boys basketball drop two WCC games

The New Prague boys’ basketball team dropped a pair of Wright County Conference East Division games last week.

The Trojans record fell to 1-8 in the WCC and 5-18 overall with a 54-53 loss to Holy Family Feb. 18 and a 69-56 loss to Waconia Feb. 21.

In the loss to Holy Family, it was a tale of two halves.

The Fire led 32-20 at halftime but were outscored 33- 22 in the second half.

“We dug ourselves into a hole to start the game down as many as 14 in the first half,” Trojan coach Dan Peterka said. “We made a nice run to get back into the game and gave ourselves a chance to win. We didn’t execute the way we needed to down the stretch and came up a point short.”

Senior Parker Johnson led the offense with 20 points. Tommy Traxler added 16 and Mitch Callahan scored 12.

The Trojans missed 11 of their 15 three-point shots and made only 32 percent of their field goal attempts.

Johnson and Eckstein combined for 40 points in the loss to the Wildcats Friday.

Johnson scored 24 and Eckstein added 16.
