Theft at Fish Rock Country Market in ENM

Fish Rock Country Store along Elko New Market’s Main Street had 63 cartons of cigarettes stolen the morning of Monday, June 11.

Elko New Market Police Chief Steve Mortenson said his department was called at 9:36 a.m. on June 11 about the theft. He explained that checking video from the store that at 5:05 a.m. a white male entered the store and gas station from an unlocked side door. The suspect then walked to a cabinet where they keep the cigarettes and gained access to the cabinet by cutting a hinge. The suspect then put 63 cartons into what appeared to be a plastic bin and the man then left the store the same way he entered. There was one employee at the store, but didn’t notice the theft. The suspect is described as being 5-feet, 8 inches to 5’10” in height and weighing between 170 to 180 pounds. Chief Mortenson said his department has sent out a crime alert to the Twin Cities metro area.
