Swim team shows promise in opener

The New Prague Trojan girls swim and dive team opened its season Thursday, Aug. 23, with a meet at Mankato East.

The host Cougars claimed a 98-88 victory in the meet, but Coach Tracy Torgerson said there were plenty of New Prague highlights.

“It was phenomenal to watch our young seventh and eighth graders step up to the varsity scene,” she said. “Seventh grader Ella Lund led the way for New Prague in the 500 Freestyle, Jillian Weichert paired with seventh grader Payton Schieffer to go 2-3 in the 100 Butterfly, and ninth graders Bailey Newman won the 100 Free with a time of 58.79 and Elizabeth Hesseling won the JV 100 Butterfly with a time of 1:17.56.”
