Graduates, supporters, and friends of St. Wenceslaus Catholic School in New Prague gathered Saturday night, Oct. 13, at the parish’s activity center to celebrate the school’s 140th anniversary.

Friends of all ages reminisced about their grade school days while browsing a large memorabilia display, featuring class photos, old lunch trays, and more.

Dorothy Illg was thrilled to find her father Emanuel Thomas “E.T.” Schoenbauer’s photo and captured the black-and-white image using her cellphone. “It’s fun to see him at this age--so young,” she commented. “Don’t they look so nice, all so well dressed.”

JoAnn Zaun, member of the Class of 1953, agreed.

“You couldn’t wear spaghetti straps back then,” Illg added with a laugh.

Helen Pexa was pleased that she can still name everyone in the 1955 class photo.

Sr. Catherine Schoenecker and Sr. Mary Catherine Shambour enjoyed reminiscing about their time in the classroom together. Both ladies graduated from St. Wenceslaus in 1943 and became Benedictine nuns. Now, Sr. Schoenecker is a member of the St. Paul Monastery and Sr. Shambour is a member of the St. Scholastica Monastery in Duluth.

“It’s fun to look back on our school days here. I still enjoy coming back to visit,” Sr. Shambour stated with a smile.
