NPHS names new boys hockey coach

New Prague High School has hired a new boys hockey coach, one who might benefit from some insight from the former coach.

Cory Lonke, younger brother of former coach Chris Lonke, has been offered, and accepted, the position pending school board approval.

Cory Lonke played high school hockey in Cloquet as a goaltender and went on to play two years of Division III hockey at the College of St. Scholastica in Duluth. Cory’s most recent coaching experience is with the Shakopee Sabers boys hockey program as an assistant from 2016-2018.  In addition, Cory was a scout and an assistant coach with the Minot Minotauros in the North American Hockey League from 2011-2017. Currently, Cory is a scout with the Camrose Kodiaks of the Alberta Junior Hockey League.

Chris Lonke resigned as head coach last month after 10 years in the position, citing family reasons. He remains as a teacher in the New Prague Area Schools.
