New Prague schools addresses childcare and food service during closure
The following press release was received Mon. March 16:
“COVID19 - March 16, Letter to the Community
New Prague Area Schools Families:
We continue to work through issues around the two-week closure, March 16th through March 27th, to prepare our plan for delivering distance learning, if that is required. We want to keep you informed of new information or changes as they occur.
SCHOOL BUILDINGS OPEN TUESDAY, MARCH 17TH
On Tuesday, March 17th from 8:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. parents and students will be permitted to enter the District School Buildings in order to retrieve any personal belongings and materials they may need in the weeks ahead. This also includes pick-up of medication and medical supplies from the Health Office. The building nurse will be on-site to distribute these items. This is the only day that the building will be open to parents and students until further notice.
We request that you come in ONLY if you need to retrieve items. We also request that you enter and exit the building as quickly as possible.
CHILDCARE FOR CHILDREN OF HEALTHCARE AND EMERGENCY WORKERS
Childcare is available now for healthcare and emergency workers and will be free of charge. We apologize for the incorrect initial communication. In an effort to get something out quickly, our correspondence went out prior to the new guidance clarification. If you wish to use this service, you must register in advance at this link: https://npaschools.ce.eleyo.com/child-care/11/emergency-child-care. Meals for children of medical and emergency workers who attend this program will be free of charge to families.
TRANSPORTATION FOR CHILDREN OF HEALTHCARE AND EMERGENCY WORKERS
We are offering transportation for students of emergency and healthcare workers to and from in-school childcare during normal school hours starting on Wednesday, March 18th. If students need before or after school care, their family will be responsible for transporting them to and from the school. If you are using the program ONLY during the school day hours of 9-3:45, district transportation may be an option for you. Please complete the following form: Regular Education Transportation Registration. Choose the Emergency Worker option in the School Year drop down area. Someone from the Transportation department will contact you with details.
NUTRITION SERVICES SERVING MEALS
Nutrition Services will be available to ALL students during this school closure through March 27th, REGARDLESS of free or reduced-price meal status. All meals would be provided for FREE.
To indicate your need for the district to provide breakfast and lunch for your children, please complete this survey: https://forms.gle/bmETkWVciEnxRfWH7. This will assist the district in determining the best way to provide meals for those in need.
This survey is not for children of emergency and healthcare workers who have access to in-school childcare.
Please complete this survey by Tuesday, March 17 at 10:00 am. If you do not have access to complete this online survey, please call the Nutrition Services Office at 952-758-1774.
A form to order individual meals will be provided in another communication on Tuesday based on the information from this survey.
Thank you for your understanding and patience as we work through issues.
Tim Dittberner, Superintendent of Schools”
